instead of tagging these with marine shark and fish instead would it be better if we have a tag like shark_tail or marine_tail, keep the hybrid, and whatever dominate specie's trait tags are already present.
This is mostly due to the fact there is very little to no marine nature in the pictures except the tail which in most cases is covered in fur anyways.

Example I would leave the wolf canine hybrid tags in this picture https://e621.net/post/show/364112 but remove shark fish marine and add the tag shark_tail or whatever we agree on.

Hybrids get a pass on TWYS for the most part.
And a half shark is still half-marine animal.
Current usage of the marine tag is for marine species, it's not a designation of a marine setting in an image.

Edit: that's why it's a species tag, not a general tag.

Everything he said. There is the underwater tag for scenes that involve being in water.

I see you point, but i think I was a little unclear with the term "marine nature" I didn't mean marine theme, but marine creature (smooth skin, more scalie type). You can search for shark -hair but you'll lose a lot of pictures such as https://e621.net/post/show/422872 which are most definitely a shark.

I personally think it should not count as a hybrid, if the only thing separating is a small appendage, (shoulder fin, tail, or sharp teeth). For example we don't tag sharks with hair on their heads as hybrids as well as pictures like this https://e621.net/post/show/422187 with the equine tag, but it get's the horsecock tag instead.

I can also see problems with people arguing whether or not a picture should get certain species tags as well though. It's just that my mind thinks it's silly to throw a fuzy shark tail on a wolf, or put a back fin on a skunk and say they're close enough to be called a shark. Same goes for that whole argonian is now a t-rex thing on some pictures even though nothing is there to differentiate between them.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, or there's another way of looking at it. Maybe I'm just wanting my cake and eating it too lol. At any rate I look forward to your input.

With hybrids, unlike most situations, it's not just tag what's in the image.
We pay attention to the character in that specific case, and if it's supposed to be half wolf half shark, that's how we tag it.

Mkay. Imagine a shark and a wolf get it on and have a baby. The baby is born mostly a wolf, but has a shark tail from the shark parent. Because it's not a 50/50 split, does that mean that it's not a hybrid? Heck, you can see that with breeds of cats and dogs even, where only a few traits are carried over to mixed breed young.

horsecock gets horsecock and not hybrid because Furries. Could be nothing but wolf furries in their parentage, but they turn out with a horsecock, because reasons. It's dumb, it's silly, but it's Furry. I've learnt to just ignore that. >_>

EDIT: Wonder what Genjar's post was. Forum says he posted about an hour ago, but no post. :o
