Topic: What up with the barazoku tag?

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

According to this wikipedia article Barazoku was the name of a japanese gay mens magazine that later became a slang term for gay or gay manga. This is pretty much like yaoi, so just like it was aliased to gay I figured it would make sense to alias barazoku to gay as well.

So I tried to suggest the alias and I got a message that said "barazoku was already aliased to something". But when you look at the wiki page for barazoku there is nothing stating that it was ever implicated to anything, only that bara was implicated to it.

So what is going on? I feel very strongly that barazoku -> gay is a valid alias. Having 255 images tagged with it, I really feel it's an alias worth making.

An alias either way on a tag prevents further alias suggestions, the way to make the suggestion is to make a forum thread.
Which you've now done.
So, problem solved, now we can discuss the tag/potential alias.

Edit: I can see a bit of an issue with the alias, a large percentage of the images tagged are not images that should get the "gay" tag, i.e. solo characters.
If it is synonymous with gay, then the better approach based on current tags would be to invalid tag it.

Ah, I was not aware of that. I thought it had to be aliased to something else. I didn't think it mattered if something was aliased to it.

So yeah, what do you all think of aliasing barazoku -> gay?

I was mid-edit, so please see my above edit.

Oh, yeah, I missed that. All of those solo images getting tagged gay would be create a bit of a mess huh? Yeah, let's just alias barazoku -> invalid_tag.

It may be feasible to alias to invalid tag to clean out the current occurances, then change the alias to gay for ease of future searching?
Not sure if that would cause issues, might depending on how the aliasing happens.

Hmm. Considering that Barazoku has come to mean Manly Men (usually gay but not always), I'd prefer an implication rather than alias, as I actively filter out the Manly Men, but with the solo images would think that it's honestly fine on its own.

That may be how it's being used as a tag, but it's not entirely accurate based on my google results, there's plenty of feminine images elsewhere with that word attached.
And the magazine it's based on specifically marketed as having material for all tastes in the gay community.

In light of that current usage, perhaps an alias to 'muscles' would be more effective.
And that would allow your(and others') blacklisting to maintain it's integrity.

Hmm. *goes to check the 'muscles' tag to see if it's appropriate* Well, there certainly are a large number of images like that... but there's also a medley of images like https://e621.net/post/show/422549 and https://e621.net/post/show/421927 in that pool...

Aha! I'm a derp. Go ahead and alias Bara away to gay. It's the tag big_muscles that I need to blacklist instead. I'll just spend a bit of time ensuring appropriate images are tagged big_muscles that aren't at the moment.

Okay, I did a "barazoku -big_muscles" search, added it appropriately to a few of those that deserved it, then got ill looking at all that "sexy" muscleman and had to stop. Someone please finish the job? x_X;
