The tag alias #79118 sophie_panthera -> sophie_(absoluteamoeba) is pending approval.

Reason: Removal of the last name from the tag and replacing it with the owner of the character to make tagging easier...

Normally, we'd prioritise the character tag with the full name since that works best for disambiguation and also allows distinguishing between other "Sophies" that are also owned by the same character owner (see howto:tag characters).

Are you saying that, for your character Sophie, she will have a different last name if she was depicted as an alternate_species?

Watsit

Privileged

This should probably be reversed. We typically prefer <firstname>_<lastname> when it sufficiently identifies a character, while an alias from <firstname>_(<owner>) can be helpful if people are more familiar with just their first name and who owns them.

A character with a different name is considered a different character. We'd use a disambiguation suffix if we have different tags for different forms of the same character, rather than different names (e.g. we use link_(wolf_form) and link_(rabbit_form) for Link's wolf and rabbit forms respectively, rather than wolf_link and rabbit_link they're commonly referred to as).

Ah I see - not to worry then

Well I wasn't sure - I was requesting this update to give a little flexibility however I have now removed that section of the request as I get the issues behind it.
I do have plans for an alternative version of her that is a dragon, that is the same character in like her personality and such, however from what I understand a disambiguation tag would be used in this case - is that correct?

The main reason I was requesting this update is that I'm not sure that taggers would know which character to look for. In most pieces, she is simply referred to as "Sophie", so unless you did digging on my personal profile I wasn't sure they'd be able to find it

Thanks for the explanation!
I understand that a last name attached to the character is generally preferable, I'm just unsure that taggers who do not follow my profile, and have seen her posted to an artist's or friend's page simply as "Sophie" would know which character to look for in the tags

If the characters are visually different and have a different name (regardless of their similar personalities), you would want their character tags to be separate and "unambiguous".
In this case, you should not use sophie_(absoluteamoeba) as it is ambiguous to which Sophie it is referring to. Instead, you should be using sophie_panthera and sophie_draco (for example) as two separate character tags.

You can mention any lore related material inside the character tag's wiki, if you wish. This can also include links to the character tags of her alternate forms.

If they would like to see more of your character, they can see from the character tag that is used on the posts themselves.

Having a unified sophie_(absoluteamoeba) would theoretically make searching for your character(s) easier, but it will also cause problems down the road when people get confused as to why there are seemingly two different characters being tagged in the same character tag.

Ah I getcha - these characters would share the same name as it is an alternative version of Sophie, however due to their visual differences, I was thinking about making a separate tag for her dragon form, just to avoid the confusion as you stated below.

Right I see. So it would be like, "her alternative dragon form can be found at tag name"?

Yes, you can also directly link the character tag using square brackets if you don't know already; i.e., [[tag_name]].
