I can see the reasoning for other animal tails, but horse tails are a rather particular kind of tail. Is there a broader scientific term for it?

Actually, looking at it now, animal_tail sounds redundant since all tails are from animals.

However, the main point of the <animal>_tail tags is that they are for humanoids-only (similarly to animal_head), so an umbrella tag would be helpful in that case, though not in its current name since it confused me at first.

I still think almost all the <animal>_tail tags should be ideally aliased to something that actually describes the tail itself, rather than being species oriented.

As an example, tags like lion_tail and cow_tail are aliased to tail_tuft because that's the defining feature of those animals' tails. Many animals have tails with tufts, so it would make no sense to specifically tag the species itself, especially as it would create multiple tags that serve the same purpose. Instead of having deer_tail, rabbit_tail or bird_tail we use scut_tail for deer and rabbits and tail_feathers for birds.

The rat_tail tag has currently been kept, despite referencing a species, because it describes a distinctive type of tail (bald and segmented, seen in few species besides rodents) and no better alternative name has yet been proposed. I personally think horse_tail fits in this same area, being reasonably unique compared to other animals.

Things like cat_tail or dog_tail vary too much by breed, and probably don't have anything distinct about them, are probably completely useless as tags.

I would say segmented tails but that tag is a clusterfuck of like protogens, aliens, rats and jazz

There has, it the BUR just got buried.

I otherwise agree with everything else you said. If there is a good descriptive name for horse_tail I'd support that, but I don't think there is.
