Topic: Use of watermark as an editor

Posted under General

Hello,

I was wondering if it is acceptable to add a watermark, as one who edits artworks.

I mostly like to edit video artworks, making them more concise and action orientated or perhaps for example, slightly adjusting light levels for clarity.

I make sure my watermark is smaller than the original creator and created my name to emphasise that I am an editor rather than the original creator of the artwork.

The purpose of the watermark, is so if people like the edit, they know who did it and can find more edits if they so wish.

You cannot add your own watermark or signature onto any artwork you did not create per our Plagiarism rule, unless you are officially collaborating with the artist.
Personally, I do not think it would be nice to add a watermark/signature onto an artwork that you did not have a hand in creating in the first place, even as a third-party editor.

You may only credit yourself as the editor in the description of the post.
As for the tagging, you will be not be tagged as an artist, nor as a contributor (with the edits you are describing) as per our current guidelines.

However, I would be more concerned with whether or not your edits would even pass our Quality Standards for Edits.
Edits must be on par with the artist's original quality and "low-effort/trivial edits" are not permitted (e.g., cutting out parts).
If you are unsure if your edits would meet our standards, you can try posting it on a third-party site (e.g., Google Drive, Discord, Catbox.moe) to let us comment on the edits first before you post it here.

Ok, how do I go about posting from a third party site for review please?

Yeah, that will not be approved and will be considered as a "trivial edit" of post #2820274 (as it just cuts out parts and duplicates existing scenes).

I didn't duplicate anything, but ok then.

I think another way to explain it is that the video you want to upload has the same exact artistic content as the original video, without any additions or modifications, only missing some of the runtime, creating a video that is excessively similar to the original only missing some of the content.

The lack of artistic additions or modifications is the reason that the edit you created is considered low effort/trivial. It's the same as cropping out a part of an image and calling that an edit, nothing was added, things were only taken away.

Edits should have the same level of quality as the original, instead of diminished quality.

Sorry, I must have misinterpreted some scenes as being duplicates.
In any case, we simply do not allow people to post trimmed videos like this since it doesn't really add anything artistic wise as @Emionix has said.

Even if say, we merge two related videos together (that the artist had posted separately), it would still be considered as a "trivial edit" since nothing new was added.
