A suffix is only necessary if a tag is potentially ambiguous. Characters with a first and last name typically aren't ambiguous, so shouldn't have a suffix. And if a name is ambiguous, the base tag should be aliased to a disambiguation rather than a specific one character.

Okay. I was following this example for a more well known OC (I'm still pretty new to the furry community).
Her OC had tag aliases for her full name "Coraline_Kempt" and "Coraline_(kikokitty)".

An alias for riley_(zombiecowherd) to riley_delmare can make sense, in cases where people are likely to be familiar with a character's first name and who owns them, but not be as familiar with their full name. So someone could check or tag riley_(zombiecowherd) and see riley_delmare is the correct tag. But it's very unlikely that there will be other prominent characters named Riley Delmare for riley_delmare_(zombiecowherd) to be helpful.

Okay! Would it make more sense to alias riley_(zombiecowherd) to riley_delmare and just use those tags then?
I'm still learning how to use the site, so I'm trying to optimize my metadata tags.

Yes, though you will only need to use one (riley_delmare). Once that alias gets approved, riley_(zombiecowherd) will automatically change to riley_delmare when used.

Hi again! Sorry to keep bugging you, but I just tried to submit the following alias request and received an "Error: Antecedent name has already been taken" message.

FROM: riley_(zombiecowherd)
TO: riley_delmare

Does this mean that it's already been aliased?

The system is preventing you from submitting another alias request when there is still one pending for approval.
Go to alias #78078 and click on the "Reject" command to manually reject your current request, then you may submit a new one with the amended tags.

you need to reject the other alias first then you can make a new one ^^

you can reject the alias by clicking the alias number on the top of the request (https://e621.net/tag_aliases/78078)

Thank you! I rejected both of the previous requests and submitted the new one!
Is there a way to delete the old metadata tags that aren't needed anymore?

I'm not sure what you mean by the old metadata tags.
If you mean the previous tags you have used, it should all be moved to the new tag seamlessly.
