Topic: invalid_tag and sound_warning categorization

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

The sound_warning tag is put in the "artist" category so it stand out more. Also, meta tags are bottom of the list so people would miss it if it was in that category.

Why not rename the "Invalid" category to something like "Warning" or "Important" and have both invalid_tag and sound_warning belong to that category?
It's always top of the tag list, it would stand out even more than the more expected "Artist" category tags, while also being more semantically proper.

Invalid tags are neither warnings nor important, they are tags that should be removed and possibly replaced with other valid tags

Them having their own category makes it significantly easier to find posts with invalid tags and correct them: invtags:>0

I thought they were all aliased or implying invalid_tag in which case you would have been able to find them with an invalid_tag search.
But the situation is more complex than I knew about

Only tags that don't have a valid replacement and should just be removed on-sight. Other invalid tags may be ambiguous, like jack_(disambiguation) which can mean any number of characters named Jack, or eyes, which could mean of have been a typo for <color> eyes, closed eyes, etc, are left like that so they can be looked at and replaced with the appropriate real tag.

Invalid tags are aliased to invalid_tag if they have no valid replacement, they are moved into the invalid category if they theoretically could have a valid replacement
no implications exist

Replace invalid_category with meta_category
And then change warning tags to meta because the warning is literally a meta warning for users

but we already have a meta category?

No I mean replace where OP says invalid with meta so that the warning-type tags are changed to being meta

but then it would be at the bottom of the image where most people wont notice it.

Oh right I forgot to say that meta could be shifted to being on the top

That adds a lot of clutter at the top, posts can have a lot of valid meta tags
metatags:>=10 has ~100k results
metatags:>=5 has >240k results

It's at the bottom because these tags are irrelevant to most people

I did have the thought that it wouldn't always be helpful so I guess I was just being optimistic
I remember you said you had to fight tooth and nail to get one tag category added so I guess getting yet another one for meta-warnings like epilepsy and ear-rape
Hell, on mobile it can literally just be put above the post itself so people immediately know to be on guard (although I love seeing people's comments of getting jumpscared)

It took literal years and many hours (maybe days? I'm not sure, but I dont think it passed 24 hours) of database churn to get a new tag category
And even then after that due to the process of adding new tag categories being an entirly foreign concept (none have been added to a live database, the last time any were added was with e621ng in 2020) we had issues with job runners not being up to date, and various issues spawning from there

So yes, unless this process becomes significantly easier I would not bet on getting a new category any time soon

Also note that the process gets more difficult the more posts we get, so as time goes on the likeliness dips even further (by my previous calculations on post #5000000 (comment #8460409) we currently gain 1 million posts in a little over 1.25 years)
