Topic: Can we have written stories on the website?

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

As I see more comic pages being posted from start to finish in the website, I just happen to wonder if we can have a feature when we upload documents of written stories onto e621. Is a feature like that possible for a future update?

See topic #39539.

In short, that is not likely to happen. Even if it does get added, quality control and tagging will go out the window.
The best we can do now is settle with story_in_description.

Nah, e621 is an imageboard.

It'd make tagging a fucking nightmare for a few different reasons.

Post on AO3, FA or accept the limitations that come with adding it to a post's description.

I feel like AO3 or Wattpad covers this well enough, though it would be nice to have an offshoot of e621 specifically for furry writings, not specifically porn but just furry writings across the board. But, as someone else said, it'd be tagging nightmare

Song

Janitor

I love written work, but I also agree that there are operational difficulties involved that make it hard to merge with the rest of the site. A story takes far longer to review, has more subjective criteria for relevance and quality, and is more difficult to tag, as others have said.

You are welcome to link to your writing on other websites from your profile page. Sofurry and Fur Affinity both have writing portals for more anthro-oriented works.

honestly, I don't think tagging would be that much of a problem, at least it wouldn't be as much of a problem as quality control would. processing visual information and assessing visual artistic quality is comparatively easy compared to textual/literary quality. hoisting all that onto the janitors would be a lot, especially if there was no restrictions as to who would be allowed to create .txt posts.

Short answer: no

I do remember seeing some posts that had a full blown short story written

There's even some that are too long for the description & get tagged story_at_source (e.g. pool #24168 starts with stories in the description, but they grow too large towards the end).

I'd argue that e6 would probably be better than at least AO3 in this regard (e.g. no tag count limit, don't need to a certain number of posts w/ a tag to properly search it, better search in general), but regardless of how nice it'd be, it'd still be a colossal problem in implementation & moderation. Even if we did, allowing text content to be the *main* content would be inviting a deluge of requests, especially around overhauling/expanding DText & asking for more (e.g. music, real life photography, etc.) that would dilute the focus on the original main purpose of the site. It'd just be looking for trouble.

I think the nature of e6's granular tagging library is antithetical to hosting exclusively text-based content like short stories and the like.
