Topic: Notes Ruin Posts! Hell No, No More Notes!

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone OUTSIDE, we have a voice and will not be silenced, we need change!
posts such as this: https://e621.net/posts/273106 are borderline unviewable thanks to notes!
we need a button to disable them temporarily so that we can properly appreciate the art!
HELL NO, NO MORE NOTES!

Uhh... have you tried clicking the image?

Eh, I feel like a setting to have notes disabled by default (unless that already exists?) would be nice.

I feel like I have also seen images where due to layout or density there wasn't visible space to click. Like post #136906

There's a on/off button for Notes beneath every post and the site remembers which you set

that's Re621.

oops

With that in mind, when I remember using the site without it, Notes were always defaulted to On but just tapping/clicking on the image anywhere there isn't a note will hide them all and doing it again will reappear them

Even if there was no note toggle I think everybody on the entire site would much rather add one than remove the notes feature entirely, there are plenty of people who aren't you who want to read non-English comics.

If there are other people struggling with the concept of toggling notes then maybe a FAQ entry might be appropriate...?

I think so
I can vaguely remember that I kind of just happened to figure out how to make them go away (or if the note box is small enough on mobile, a fat finger can miss and hide it)

Those notes should probably be much smaller, so they don't create that problem. As thin as possible at the top of each panel would be more reasonable. Or a small empty space for each panel.

I should probably port it to vanilla e6.
Should be pretty simple.

I'd like to think so
A toggle button that shows/hides an element

If you do, consider having notes default to off. Right now I feel like they're on by default because otherwise no one would ever see them, or even know that they exist.

Also, notes are currently draggable and resizable all the time; does it commit your actions instantly when you mess with that, or do you have to be in edit mode and click Submit? This is not clear either and maybe they should be locked in place until you go into edit mode.

You must specifically choose to save resizes/repositions. You can safely move a note for viewing purposes without committing the change, I think it's probably better for cases like post #136906 if this doesn't change.

I think they should be defaulted to On to prevent ignorant users adding the translation_request tag because they don't know to turn it on
