How did it get more popular than most other "furry" movies? I can't think of a movie more popular than Zootopia here on E6

It was a very successful movie and was lowkey marketed towards furries, if that means anything. The ad actually used the word "anthropomorphic"...

I think timing is a big factor. the mid-2010s felt like kind of a boom in the popularity of furry stuff in general. it was also released before opinions on Disney really started souring.

in terms of franchises that are primarily film properties, Zootopia is by far the largest (at ~58k) with Lilo and Stich and The Lion King (both ~12k) in distant second and third, the next after those is Disney's Robin Hood way down near the end of the second page (~4.9k) followed by Alien and How to Train Your Dragon (both ~4.3k) being the first non-Disney things.
