Topic: has there been a mass tag change for canine_pussy?

im looking at the first page for the canine_pussy tag, and the first and second posts under the tag were from earlier today, then the 3rd post is from over TWO YEARS ago????? wtf happened???

also, as i type in the tag for a search, the pop up for suggested tags shows that there should be over 24k results, yet there seems to only be 12 pages??? that's hardly even 1/20 of what should be there

Canine_pussy has been renamed to canine_vulva, however this doesn't answer your question. The tag history is a bit messy right now due to the alias, but that's where abuse would become apparent.

EDIT: Okay, so as far as I can tell, there doesn't appear to have been any abuse with mistagging. I checked my own art that I know was tagged canine_pussy, and it's still tagged that way. However, the search is only registering images tagged canine_vulva. There's either something worng with the alias or it's taking a while to actually affect images.

Updated

Probably related to the *pussy* tags getting renamed to *vulva* today.

why the change? seems highly unnecessary, and as we can see, has caused a lot of searchability issues for thousands upon thousands of posts. i hope this change is automated, and we're simply seeing a work in progress. i assume that once this change is fully implemented, any search for "canine_pussy" will automatically redirect to "canine_vulva"?

Yes, this is correct. The changes aren't fully complete yet and the end terminology is to use vulva instead of pussy (accurate term over a slang term, like penis instead of cock)

It takes time for the system to actually change all the posts using the tag, and update any caches and other stuff related to searches. It will work itself out with time.

As for why, it's because pussy had been the odd one out with genital names. We don't use cock or dick for penis, asshole for anus, ass for butt, tits for breasts, etc, so having pussy instead of vulva was unusually and unnecessarily crude and crass in relation.

Not entirely on ass and butt. We have tons of ass tags. Next big tag project maybe?

There are some instances of tags with those words, yes. Some of them probably can be renamed, but I don't think it's necessary to get rid of them all, particularly where the result would be less understandable (or in some cases, less alliterative). ass_on_glass for instance just sounds better than butt_on_glass. Some other instances of ass are kept where the distinction between butt and anus is less clear and less relevant. And we still keep balls because testicles doesn't really read that well, especially with related tags like balls_touching vs testicles_touching (where it loses the reference to the meme). But the primary tags for those other things are using more neutral terminology, and I don't think the reason for keeping balls over testicles really applies to pussy vs vulva.

What about scrotum?

Let's not lose sight on things that actually matter for the average user. I don't think balls is a tag anyone really has any issue with, so it shouldn't necessitate any change, especially if it just works.

'Pussy' had the problem/benefit (depending on your pov) of not being specific. It applies to the vulva, vaginal opening, and vaginal canal.

Ah I was just searching equine content and was wondering why I was only getting old stuff. Was worried it was signs of another purge event..

I feel like animal genitalia makes up a big enough portion of the site that there'd be at least some discussion before that gets nuked.

if sexualized depictions of non-human genitalia became illegal, I think Bad Dragon would likely have a lot more to worry about than just e6.

It would only get nuked if they're was enough pressure to nuke it no matter what, so I doubt there would be any discussion.

Considering it's both >10% of the site's content and the primary focus, I am certain the site would be moved before purging that content

Compare that to young human content which was <1% and not the focus of the site

It’s not really an issue of legality but rather, as already said, pressure from business sources like credit card companies and banks. Feral content is definitely something else at risk but I feel like we would lose cub before that point still.

If that pressure was the issue, Dragon Fruit would've never lasted as long as it has nor grown as large as they have. Their money spends just as good as everyone else's

Precisely. It's a useful, catch-all term for female genitals. It's the sort of term the average user will think of searching *before* searching for 'vagina' or 'vulva.' Don't get me wrong, 'vulva' is an accurate, clinical term, but *people don't use it*.

So someone broke the tagging today for over a quarter of a million posts, just to make the site *less* useful.

If we want to use the 'vulva' tag more often, just set the pussy tag to automatically add the vulva tag and vice versa. Don't replace one with tbe other; that's ridiculous.

It's being fully replaced, adding pussy to posts will result in vulva being added, it's going to be like nothing even changed
Aliases even update blacklists

You can see the progress by comparing the post count of the two tags here, it takes a lot of time to move nearly a million posts (270k have been moved in about 16 hours, 700k posts left to go)

Once everything is done there alias status will change from processing to active, biometric this does not mean everything is done - some index updates and other things still need to happen behind the scenes, but everything will be right in the end

The purpose for the name change is because many view it as demeaning and/or unfair because penis is (mostly) the all-use term instead of cock or dick, which both likely dwarf penis in usage by the average person in day to day life. So it's not about people not using it or being the most technically correct (that's just an added benefit), it's about being fair to half the people on the planet (no idea what the male:female ratio is on this site tho :P)

Setting one tag to automatically add the other is practically what an alias is (on this site). But it cannot go both ways, that's just an impossibility in reality and programming. The server will do the replacing for you, so you never have to not use pussy as the list of pussy-related tags are also getting the same treatment.

tl;dr nothing on your end will change and it's just gonna take a few days for the server to process its own change

I… get the idea is to standardize naming conventions, but this just seems confusing? Vulva comes off as quite “clinical”, less so than penis, which does have common usage even in sexually charged contexts.

tags are supposed to be generally as connotationally neutral as possible in their wording. "clinical" was kinda the goal.

we're not stopping anyone from using the word in art or in the comments or anywhere else. same as how people are still allowed to say "dickgirl" or "cuntboy" after we renamed those tags.

In all honesty, I feel like tagging (and therefore searching) is geting more annoying as time goes on.
I understand their reasoning on why they want to do it, but at the same time it's irritating when a tag changes.
Some "Spreading" tags doesn't even alias into "spread" when it clearly should.

You can make an alias request in the forums, where that change can be discussed and potentially implemented.

It's currently part of BUR hell, but I'll try.
