Topic: Can we have two different account names?

Posted under General

I'm just curious is we can have 2 different accounts without a request for an alias change? I have 2 personas; this one that is laid back, enjoys life, is friendly and gives encouragement. However, my art would be classified as "nightmare_fuel" and "terror". I don't want to post my nightmare fuel here under this name. I have a different name I use for my art. However, does this break any e621 rules? I'm not trying to get around a ban and my account has been here for years without any issues posting.

I've had this moniker since the mid 1990's and it is dear to me. However, I don't want to associate my art with it. My alt is appropriately named to reflect my art style. So, if I can't make a second account, then I'll leave my art off of this site (which might be for the best for some folks here.... :D). But I don't want my comments I make to other people/artists here under my nightmare fuel artist tag.

Please and thank you for your help in this matter.

You can have two different artist tags for your "normal" and "nightmare_fuel" content.
You can optionally specify in the artist tag's wiki that it is an alternative account and for people to keep the two tags separate

If you wish to create another e621 user account to post the other type of content, you may do so only if you don't use that new account to also circumvent any site restrictions (e.g., posting because your first account has some limitations, double-voting, etc.).

Thank you very much for your help. So, just so that I understand you correctly; I would create a new account but then under the wiki here, I would link that new account as an alt account? Do I also have to put a link there to show both accounts are linked? I just want to make sure I do it correctly.

You have to know that accounts are not the same as artist tags/wikis.

  • Accounts are what you use to log into e621 and do stuff like uploading and tagging posts.
  • Artist tags are a type of tag that you can add onto posts that shows who made it.

There are also two types of wikis, one being a "tag wiki" and the other being an "artist wiki".

  • Normally, you can access a tag's wiki by clicking on the ? next to the tag on a post. It would contain information such as what the tag is and how it is used.
  • For artist tags, they have a normal tag wiki like with every other tag (where you can mention any information you want) as well as an additional link that leads to the artist wiki, which typically includes information such as alternative names, gallery URLs, and additional notes.
    • For example, let's see at fuf, one of the artists with the most post counts. If you clicked on their name, you can see the tag wiki. If you clicked on View artist, it will lead to the artist wiki.
    • If an artist has a verified e621 account, their account name will be mentioned in the artist wiki for their artist tag.

To answer your question,

  • You don't need to create a new account if you want to have a new artist tag. You can simply add a new artist tag by typing in artist:artist_name (e.g., artist:hybrithe) into the tags of a post.
  • You can mention in the tag wiki for the new artist tag that there is another artist tag that you use for other types of arts; e.g., see this artist's tag wiki. Typically, this is done to avoid people from mixing or merging the two tags together.
  • If you want to get your current account verified to an artist tag, you can contact an admin to help you or check this page for more information.
    • The same process must be done if you want to create another account and have that be verified to another artist tag.
    • I do not know if you can use one account to be verified to two artist tags, but you can ask an admin if that is possible.

For Example, take the case of gabbah and electricplasmid. They are the same artist but they prefer all of their NSFW art to be under the "electricplasmid" artist tag and the SFW art to be under the "gabbah" tag. Their respective wikis explain this.
