Topic: 4chan is kill

Posted under Off Topic

Following a hacking incident, it appears that 4chan is no more.
It was never perfect, and had lots of problems, but there are now a good many furries who have been displaced from the furry threads there.
I wonder what the implications of this migration on other furry places online might be, if any.

Based on what little we've heard so far from the site administration, it'll (probably) be back sooner or later. No ETA, however.

Many people.

There were very active gay and straight furry threads on /b/, along with many niche furry threads on /trash/.
And yeah probably not gone forever, but it’s anyone’s guess what might happen next.
The current owner of the site, Hiroyuki Nishimura, has been notoriously absent from any site operations for years now.
The entire site is/was run by moderators.

I don't doubt that it'll be brought back in some capacity, but I do doubt that it'll regain its place as a dumpster-fire fueled cultural powerhouse. It's been dwindling in relevancy for years, and there's other places for people to jump ship to.

Wow, I didn't even know that it was down.. It has been a year since last time I checked on it. But, yeah, no doubt that the website will be back online in the future. I mean, Kiwifarms where taken down once and the website is back online, if I remember correctly (though, again, it has been 2 years since I checked that website). If they could have done it, so is 4chan, or maybe the users and content will migrate to other 'chan' websites ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Seems as though 8chan (.moe, not 8kun), has now absorbed a decent number of furry /trash/ threads on their new /trash/ board.
Depending on how long 4chan is down, it may become more relevant.

It being "gone forever" and such is highly emotive language, but I like the important context of the article in terms of discussing the recent past and more things.

Just want to say that if any of the claims is to be believed, it's the same group that shat on e621 a few months ago and caused a massive banwave of compromised accounts (see topic #53934).

Luckily, those little cunts failed to cause any significant downtime/data loss here.

I've also heard rumors that the 4chan hack may have been a false flag. For one, the Touhou music and dancing Mikus seen during the hack really aren't part of that group's culture.

I'd take this as a story of precaution since (according to them) there is a lack of interest in raiding us and that it would still be possible if some incel was dedicated enough like with 4chan's downfall.

Indeed. No site is invulnerable, and we have a lot of aggressive detractors, but the active moderation, up-to-date codebase and account limitations do help.

This will rattle them but eventually 4chan will come back I loved the drawthreads.

It still has quarter million users everyday

What I find particularly funny is that A LOT of peoples logged in under their real .edu and .gov accounts, I mean that’s basic OPSEC how do you mess this up?

From what I know, after the site was brought back up it works rather wonky... and with the absolute dumpster fire that is the code documentation of the site (which was revealed to us from the hack), it likely is dead in the sense that no one is going to use it anymore lol, it is that bad. Not to mention the source code was leaked, that's a whole other thing.

...I heard that is another imageboard like 4chan.

It may or may not be them, but their name is not worth mentioning nor worth validating.

I'm pretty sure it's been the longest downtime I've witnessed yet, and it's not even back yet, but would be surprised if it were indeed permanent.
Might be a good time to fix some issues with the code for sure.
As for the regular users, it'll probably be a few days until most are aware it's back. It's possible that some groups will establish a presence elsewhere but I'd expect the notorious regulars to return swiftly. Some may even find the break a good thing.

It's been too long already man I just want 4chan to come back online so i can lurk in /adhg/ again...

I got a ton of burner emails because the /sp/ janny banned me for no reason

It was bound to happen after Jim Watkins gained control of it a long time ago.

I think you're confusing 8chan with 4chan.

I was once banned from the weapons and arms board (whatever its name was, I completely forgot it) for supposedly falsely claiming to be working in Russian MIC. Fuck these assholes, I wish I was falsely claiming that

I thought he had both of them. Maybe I got it mixed up with the 2channel takeover incident regarding him and Hiroyuki Nishimura.

4chan is back, sooner than I expected too.
In other news, 8chan (moe) traffic still seems very elevated, and I wouldn't be surprised if some altchans retain some higher traffic long term.

I think it took 'em longer to come back than ExH did back in 2018.
