We're generally wary of pre-aliasing tags that have never been used (or have little use), a userscript such as https://re621.app can do this when uploading without the need to make an alias for each and every similar tag
A few tags here and there is one thing, but if you're planning on making these alias requests a habit (the way it seems), you should look into a userscript instead

If that's the reason, you've got the alias request backwards

They have it the correct way around, they aren't trying to change our tags
They're trying to make their life (or others lives) easier when importing posts from danbooru, with the alias there'd be no need to correct the tags for uploading here which are different on danbooru
Danbooru uses gimp_(medium) whereas we use gimp_(artwork)

He's saying that it's gimp_(medium) on that website tho
And this alias would change this site's naming to no longer match it
I thought the basis for his reason is that he wants them to be the same as each other
Edit: nevermind I see what he's trying to do, just clicked on gimp_(artwork) to see that's what we currently use. I get it now.

It is gimp_(medium) on danbooru
They aren't trying to make the tag names match, they're just trying to make it not need to matter when they import tags from danbooru (which is accomplished via alising danbooru's version to our version)
Isn't it the case that we should avoid copying tags from other sites? Since even where the words match they may have a somewhat different meaning, so instances of it on the other site may not be applicable here. And they can have more lax rules about what can or should be tagged, resulting in blatant mistags and obvious missing tags. Automated tagging in general is frowned upon, I thought.

I mean that definitely makes sense. Rule34(dot)xxx has next to no standards for tagging, as an example of other sites. But I think if an uploader shows a good record of tagging accuracy, then they should be allowed to copy/paste some tags.
