That's the point
It's a meme tag

If that's the point, I don't see the issue with invalidating it. It's too subjective to be of value. Even memes need to be defined to a degree. If the answer to "who is this for/what is this about?" is "anyone and everything, depending on the picture", what's the point of the tag?
And considering it's a tag for the literal definition, I question it's value as a meme either tbh. Like, I know of relatable humour but it isn't even that. Quite a few of these are just a depiction of something relatable

Sorry but that's a little funny to read
To be fair to the tag, you did just describe what it's used for

well yeah, in response to you saying it's a meme
I don't see anything memey about it

Meme doesn't equal joke
It doesn't have to be humorous or even attempt to be funny
In this particular case, depicting something that is relatable is in and of itself the meme

While you're right about memes in general, I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on this particular case
It's definitely no skin off my back, it's seldom used, and mostly consists of sfw content.

i don't understand how this is even a meme
memes are meant to be used, replicated and changed from the original subject matter. this doesn't have any established thing that is meant to be replicating
relatable is just a reactive tag, arguably a replica of the truth tag which has barely differences

Your interpretation of what a meme is is incorrect.

": an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture" is what i wanted to say my second sentence "memes are meant to be used, replicated and changed from the original subject matter"
again - what does relatable tag even uses a particular thing that is, by definition, memed upon. it mostly appears as a wastebasket of posts that have already used certain memes

The tag itself is the meme. People see a general situation or action and they inherently understand and/or empathize because they can relate to it or even the idea.

Here's a thought experiment for you.
Imagine, if you will, a theoretical museum 50 years into the future, with the same exact piece of art hanging up on the wall - much like how you'd go to a fine art exhibit and see, like, the Mona Lisa.
You wouldn't go up to it and say, "mood", would you?
The site is an art archival endeavor. Having tags that bloat the system, and are purely and entirely subjective, don't help the situation that much.
Edit: Hell, you could even argue subjective tags fall under TWYS, not TWYK.

I'm confused at what this even means lmao

"Relatable" is an entirely arbitrary and subjective term. E621 is an art archival site that uses tags that aren't exactly subjective, and are clear and evident in the picture. What might be relatable to you, might not be relatable to literally anyone else.

You're right that relatable is arbitrary and subjective.
I will also say that there are plenty of subjective tags.
I'm not against this tag getting axed, I was more caught up in explaining what it was to the people asking.
Note that I haven't given this a Thumbs Down :P

To be fair, the way you started the discussion, it did kinda sound like you were saying it should stay.

I mean I'm of the mind that I would support people's desire to keep the tag as well, but it would be purely sympathetically because I don't use or browse the tag.
So you're not totally wrong to get that impression.

I can understand that, but at the same time, you also have to understand that when you are working with a database as large as E621, less is more. Sometimes, it's better to cut down on certain kinds of tags (I.E. completely arbitrary and subjective tags like "relatable" and in my opinion, "lol_comments" and other such tags) than to keep them around.
