I have asperger's syndrome, and I am wondering if any of you guys have it as well. I am new here btw... You can read my info on my profile about me. How high is the number of people who have asperger's that are furry you think? Could this be why I am interested in this kind of stuff?

Irrelevant, that's how high. Everyone in this fandom is different, come from all walks of life, and have varying degrees of mental stability.

You have to be 18 to be here, which your info page says you are not.

The problem with AS is that you can never be sure you actually have it, even if you get diagnosed with it. Until the health care industry develops a genetic test for AS, or a brain scan, I'll remain sceptical.

Then again, maybe saying "Hi, I have Aspergers's syndrome" is proof that you actually have it.

In refrence to the question, probably not much. The only thing I would say though is that people with AS tend to be more indoorsy and therefore more likely to be internet dwellers, where most of the fandom can be found!
So doubtless there's a lot of cross-over, but probably not any more than in other internet savy groups.

As a Special Olympics Ambassador, I'd have to disagree. People with Autism tend to think differently, so people like me and you metal would be locked into an interest creating the smartest men in the world, the author of the American constitution, the invention of the computer, etc. In your case you happened to have a deep interest in Furry material.

I think i have Asperger's. I was diagnosed with PDD which is supposed to be on a list of Autism Spectrum disorders. I was even in special olympics and put in a special class,back when i lived in Maryland i was put in a special school.

I have Autism. We found out at a young age. I'm not 100% sure that it's the reason I'm less active and/or don't have a girlfriend though...

I do think it affected my social skills, however. And I'm relatively organized and neat.

My personal stance on my condition is that I'm not as affected by my Autism as some people. Take Rain Man, for instance. I'm definitely not like that.

I've been through many residental treatment centers over 10 years (ending 2.4 years ago). my diagnosis has varied from ADD, ADHD, Bi Polar....my current is Aspbergers. I'm relieved to know I'm not alone here.

I was once tested for a learning disability in high school, and the guidance counselor learned that I simply did not want to do my homework. Being more of trekkie eventually led me here than anything. I guess that may sound a little presumptuous on my part, I am just saying that being interested in furry art is a personal choice, and not something to be concerned about whether or not someone else agrees or not. Sort of like whether or not an individual is gay or hetro. If you are happy, that is what is important. What other people think, is secondary, if it matters at all. Admittedly, I am rather ignorant of the different types of learning disabilities, and mean no disrespect as a result of my lack of knowledge, but I believe that the attractiveness of any given art form is a matter of personal preference, not social directive.
If it matters to anyone, I needed to rely on my spell checker to make that paragraph legible, or at best, some what understandable.

To sum that up, be happy with your self, and the rest will matter that much less.

You know tend to think about it, I grew up with a female German Shepard named Morgan 1993-2010 who had a crush on me and my parents suggested she might have had autism, I responded to what Celestia said but who knows.

I remember around 1989 that i went to Johns Hopkins and got diagnosed as having aspergers like symptoms.

That was before even I was born and it is harder to tell when you are a little kid, if that is the case then going for a revaluation would be good for creating a more solid diagnosis ;) I've gotten reevaluated 4 times in my life so far
