Topic: Tag implication: mall_goth -> metalhead

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag implication #67177 mall_goth -> metalhead is pending approval.

Reason: This is just to change the implication of mall goth from goth to metalhead. From what I know mall goth's name started as an insult for "posers" who imitated the goth style but listened to stuff like korn or slipknot rather than goth rock. It's a nu metal fashion generally and doesn't really have connections to the goth subculture music and culture wise besides the name. The fashion style has few similarities to goth as well, only sharing spikes and fishnets i guess? "metalhead" would be a more suitable implication in my opinion.

This makes it sound like they'd be visually the same as goth. Since posts here don't typically have audio or music, it couldn't be distinguished by Tag What You See/Hear.

its not goth though

That was just an example to help picture what they're talking about, not the actual difference.

I think this is more what you're looking for and what they meant for tagging purposes/implications

We tag based on what we can verify in a given image. We don't tag goth for characters that are goth, but for characters that look goth. If there were a number of people dressed as goths and mall goths in the same room, could you reliably distinguish who is which from a picture of them?

I think you could. I don't know how grey the line could be, but I think the stereotypical/average goth and metalhead are distinct enough. Assuming that mall goths really are an insult for metalheads instead of just goth wannabes.

there isn't really a distinction "mall goth" is an insult lobbed at people who like to wear goth fashion but aren't goth enough for the gatekeeping goths.

I'll take your word for it lol
Then yeah, posers don't really get a disambiguation around these parts

yes you could... do you know what goths actually wear? like mall goth is hot topic shit while actual goths have crazy hair, corsets, jewelry, fancy eyeliner, leather, the works. though i dont have faith the furry community knows what a goth actually looks like since this tag is full of regular character but with black clothes therefore shes "goth" now.
