Topic: [REJECTED] Tag implication: fate_worse_than_death -> suffering

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag implication #67165 fate_worse_than_death -> suffering has been rejected.

Reason: The wiki page for suffering states:

Suffering is the prolonged exposure to, or the effects caused by an unpleasant, or traumatic event, or activity. The state of suffering typically involves experiencing intense physical or mental pain over a period of time.

A crucial component of fate_worse_than_death is prolonged suffering, so it should qualify under this definition.

"Fate_worse_than_death" tag is extremely subjective, and it's debatable if that tag should exist in the first place. My fate worse than death is someone else's sexiest concept ever, and vice versa.

That being said, I think fate worse than death would not necessarily require active suffering. I believe the tag would apply to images of characters actively being put in situation that will result in certain horrific prolonged suffering in future, and characters being stuck in condition that itself does not really cause any suffering, but would cause unimaginable mental damage in long run without any active suffering being involved (*gesturing towards all the petrification fetish content where character turns into stone while remaining fully conscious, and having their mind and sense of self slowly erode away over span of thousands of years*).

Either clear it out and leave it be or alias it to invalid_tag, changing its category isn't going to help anything

I forget, what exactly are the guidelines for when to alias to invalid_tag vs. when to change category to invalid?

Category if there's a valid replacement, alias otherwise

Considering the main user of the tag is banned and it hasn't been used by anyone in 3 months invalidation is unnecessary regardless, so either clear the tag and move on or alias it to invalid_tag to get rid of it forever

There is no exact written guidelines, but here is how we generally use them:

  • Changing the category to invalid means there is still a "desire" to keep the tag around for disambiguation purpose.
    • They are typically reserved for when the tag is often vague and there are other more appropriate tags available; e.g., football (aliased to football_(disambiguation)) could mean the sport, ball, etc.
    • Multiple related but vague tags are often lumped together into a single *_(disambiguation) tag as there isn't a need to create multiple disambiguation tags for the same theme.
    • Note that the tags in the invalid category still remain on the post (as a big red tag) to remind the tagger that they did something wrong and are expected to fix them with the appropriate alternative.
    • This means that the tags in the invalid category are "high maintenance" and still needs user intervention to be manually cleaned out from time-to-time and fixed with the proper alternative.
  • Aliasing a tag to invalid_tag means that the tag has no redeemable value whatsoever, being removed entirely from the tag pool and replaced with a generic "invalid tag" label.
    • They are typically reserved for when a tag should not be used (e.g., commissioner/character owner tags), extremely vague with too many alternatives (e.g., erotic, good, rule34), often misused or abused tags (e.g., cringe, low_quality, shitty_art), and so on.
    • Note that the taggers are not going to know which tag they used are invalid (unless they crosschecked with a list) and that they may simply remove the invalid_tag without replacing it with something else.
    • This means that invalid_tag is very "low maintenance" and would just require purging from time-to-time without the hassle for replacement tags.

As an additional side of things, we generally do not encourage aliasing tags with low use when the much simpler option would be to manually purge the tag and leave as is.
This is so that we do not clog up the request queue with useless/trivial requests that could be manually fixed within a minute.

suffering and permanent seem like they would be valid replacements in most instances.

I just cleared out the tag in less than 20 seconds, no alias to anywhere is needed
Everyone can just move on and pretend it was never used, as it will likely rarely ever see use, and definitely not enough to warrant an alias anywhere

Thank you, the tag is a squick for me so I wasn't able to do it myself. That resolves the issue, then.
