Topic: Tag alias: american_paint_horse -> pinto_horse

The tag alias #76040 american_paint_horse -> pinto_horse is pending approval.

Reason: I've noticed many horses with pinto or splash markings tagged this way and it struck me as odd. The American Paint Horse is a registered breed known for pinto markings, but pinto markings can, genetically, exist on any horse except for those where the breed doesn't allow it, and that's simply a matter of human decision. All paint horses are pintos, but not all pintos are paints.

In cases of characters like Rain from Spirit, it is even stranger to see that tag. She is a wild mustang, a breed with no specific physical characteristics other than being part of the feral population in the US. I wouldn't argue mustang be a tag- you can't see it- but you can't say she's a Paint Horse either.

You could make the case that we tag plenty of characters with an assumed breed if they look close enough, but that's also why we have tags for vague "types" of animals. Draft_horse, pony, spaniel, and pastoral_dog are great examples of such tags, where they fit a type but don't have a specific breed. Many bulky horses are tagged as draft_horse instead of, for instance, Clydesdale, which is very specific.

This is how I see the pinto tag being used, replacing the american_paint_horse tag. Alternatively, do away with the species tag altogether and make pinto_markings a general tag in the same way as other markings.
