Topic: Is the blacklist user broken?

Posted under General

There are some users who post stuff that makes me uncomfortable, but they use tags that overlap with other art that I do like. I looked up how to block users here and I heard that all you have to do is put user: "user here" in your blacklist and tick a check a box and boom the user is blocked. But it hasn't worked. I've tried and tried but it still won't work and it won't let me block or blacklist anyone.

Am I doing it wrong or is it just broken rn?

You have to blacklist user:(userid) rather than name, like for blacklisting my uploads it would be blacklisting user:485489
Blacklisting user:(username) works weirdly, like it blacklists on some pages but not others (most notably doesn't work in general search, but does seem to work on the user profile).

Are you running re621?
It does not support the user:<name> format on the search page, since it does not have access to the uploader's name.
The vanilla blacklist works fine.

Although, I would recommend not using the user: format to begin with.
First off, it does not support the user:<id> format, to avoid issues when the user's name only contains numbers. You can specify the name as user:!<id> if you really want to – with an exclamation mark before the ID.
Second, it's kinda inefficient due to having to deal with both IDs and names. It may not noticeably affect things, but it's still overhead that you don't really need.

If you really want to use usernames, you can use the username:<name> tag.
But to avoid having issues with users changing their names, you should use userid:<id> instead. It's supported by both the vanilla site and re621.

Click on their profile. The user id will be the number in the URL.

For example: https://e621.net/users/1956091 is the link to your profile. 1956091 is your user ID.

I think I worded it wrong, apologizes
I'm trying to blacklist an artist, but I can't find their profile, nor can I find their id. I didn't know there was a difference between users and artists.
I think, I'm new to this blacklist thing

Just add the artist tag itself into your blacklist.

Artists do not necessarily have a user profile on e6, since artwork are mostly reposted here by third-party users.
If the artist has an official e621 account, it will be listed in the artist's wiki with their username present.

Very much thanks
