Topic: Why are screencaps not allowed?

Posted under General

I posted something made in Koikatsu recently and it was deleted. Other than being made in Koikatsu the post was perfectly fine.

I didn’t even know what it was made in. I didn’t know what Koikatsu even was. I just saw a video that wasn’t on here and I like to keep my porn in one place as much as I can.

To make a long story short, they're not allowed because anyone can go on the same game and do exactly the same thing. They aren't artwork.

It's easy to make an honest mistake if you don't know what game it is, though, as was the case here.

e621 is not your personal art gallery, it is a curated imageboard with strict Uploading Guidelines.

If we allow low-quality/low-effort posts that can be made easily within a game, there will be a bunch of similar posts that would flood the site.
Ultimately, we expect some decent artistic effort being placed into artwork creation. That's why we block AI-generated artworks from the site as well.

The only exception to this screencap rule is if you are the developer of the game making an official screenshot. In that case, you'd be the artist/creator of the game you made.
However, if you are just a random player/third-party making screenshots, we would reject them.
