I've been having this "problem" for a while, i just can't look at characters that i saw frequently as a kid and i've been curiuos for a while, am i the only one? i was not sure where to ask, so i'm asking it here.

let me expend a little bit on it, i was waching a LOT of chip 'n dale on tv as a kid and now as an adult i can't look at porn with those characters, it just makes me cringe and feel really awful(i'm not sure how to describe this feeling) seeing it, and it's the same way with a lot of shows including pokemon and it drives me nuts that so many people enjoy it and i can't because of this feeling, so i feel like the odd one out from time to time. so, am i the only one that has this?

P.S. this is my first time using e6's forum, i hope i did not screw up somewhere and if i did, i'm sorry.

Thats extremely common and normal. I blacklisted the Zelda franchise for that exactly reason. It holds a special place in my heart that I don't wanna "corrupt" it, you know?

I used to be like that, but I don't worry about it anymore.
In my mind the characters and the porn are different things. Enjoying the porn doesn't have to affect the way I feel about the characters involved

I feel cringe looking at certain childhood media franchises (such as Spongebob_Squarepants or Tom_and_Jerry), but I also feel cringe looking at more modern media franchises (such as Family_Guy or Adventure_Time).
I'm not entirely repulsed by it since I have tolerated much worse content, yet I also don't actively search for it.

On the other hand, I do have interest in certain childhood media franchises (such as Ben_10 or American_Dragon:_Jake_Long) as well as some modern media franchises (such as Bojack_Horseman or Five_Nights_at_Freddy's).
Not to mention the countless "furry bait" movies, such as Zootopia, The_Bad_Guys, etc.

I believe this plays entirely into how much sentimental value you have to a series (to not have your memories be corrupted) as well as your current kinks/fetishes that merge with it.
You will find a series much more tolerable if it plays into certain kinks and much more intolerable if it does not.

This is so common that there is a whole meme centered entirely around people being disturbed by something from their childhood being tainted by sexual themes.

it's interesting that you bring up Bojack; that show is my go-to as an example of one of the few that I'd never be able to watch porn of, actually. there's some series that just have characters that feel too real and/or the media's subject matter is too frank that makes it feel gross to watch them be used like that.

for me it's sort of a similar reaction that's triggered when seeing pornographic depictions of YouTubers and other real people, but to a much lesser extent.

I don't really care much. I definitely do sometimes go "Really? THIS character? Like THAT?" but that largely has to do with style and personality.

It's pretty normal to feel wrong or gross or weird about sexualizing SFW media. Especially stuff that you're particularly fond of.
Whether or not one is able to compartmentalize or not care about the NSFW aspect depends entirely on the person.

I've already found porn of my favorite childhood characters, yet I still refuse to look up the ones for Spongebob. I want to try and save SOME of my childhood.

Since cartoons was mostly made without cool looking monstruous monsters, I just don’t have much preferences to see R34 version of it. So, for me it was something different

To be fair, I have not watched the series yet (and I know it’s worth it) so I have not developed any sentiment over it yet. It also doesn’t help that I have been exposed to the handful of adult scenes (like Frack me, Mr. Peanutbutter) which makes me feel that it is just another "furry" show.

I guess it is also how sexualised the show is already, which makes you makes the "R34-ification" of it less traumatic.

For the most part, it doesn't bother me. Arthur_(series) porn is weird af though, and I can't bear to look at those. The limited amount of cyberchase porn somehow managed to be hot. Yes, I did look through the PBS tag because of this thread...

I have a similar feeling. For me, if I see porn of a character(s) BEFORE I see the official canon content, I am unable to watch the official content. MLP, Digimon, Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel, Zootopia, etc, can't do it. I'd just be fidgeting around and uncomfortable to the point where I have to stop watching if I tried. Yet funny enough, I have no problems if I see it AFTER watching the official content.

Nah, it wouldn't work, probably cause i really don't like cosplay in general

It's normal for your interests to change (i.e. evolve) as you get older, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you always let go of everything. I still have a bit of a Sailor Venus fetish, and pretty much have since the late 1990s.

Huh. I can't relate. I don't see porn as anything degrading or embarrassing, so seeing characters I genuinely love and respect in a bunch of kinky porn doesn't bother me. In fact I'm more likely to want to see characters I respect in porn. Sex can't taint them because sex itself doesn't taint things.
This even applies to real life for me.

That's what I hate about most IP NSFW, they're all just unrealistic pornos. If I'm making something, the characters are going to be as in-character as practical.

honestly I kinda get this. I've got a similar thing, but it's more of just a thing for fan content in general and not just NSFW. I feel like I've had enough experience with most of the franchises I like having the content of fanworks be often a lot more interesting and engaging than anything that comes out of canon, even if the polish is much more there for official stuff.

There's just so much more fanart than canon by the nature of it being fan work. There's a whole lot more fans than there are people working on a piece of media.

honestly I think it's more the lack of deadlines, and the quality of the hindsight, and, more than anything, the lack of boundaries. even some of my favorite official stuff has come out small studios making weird side games that had minimal oversite.

I'm generally not like that but there are some exceptions. Over the last few months, i started revisiting some older Disney stuff and The Lion King 1 and 2, both favorites of mine as a kid, have been the ones i've come back to the most. Haven't seen those movies in literally decades but they hold up so well, especially the first one. But i can't really bring myself to explore this side of that series, as of right now at least. I just have no interest in seeing those characters in that light.
