Topic: 1 year anniversary with shoutouts and questions

Posted under Off Topic

Technically this is ahead of time and should be on the 5th, but I got time to do this now so why not.

Fliphook

The main one here who reached out to me when I was roaming around the forums while my account was fresh and offered to assist with some questions I may have had. While some of the questions I asked would've been solved if I just did some more reading, I still got the help when I asked. Fliphook also was the reason I was even active on the blips for a little bit and decided to make one of my first off topic forum post. Had a sour start in the beginning, but a funny and straight to the point ending. My question for you if you don't mind is why you reached out and how many other new users have you reached out to as well? If I was in your shoes I only would've lent a hand to another person if it was something like someone new with tagging and has the bare minimum for the tags and asking for help. Also thought the profile you used when I first came across you was very fitting. Sad to see it gone. post #4047445

SNPtheCat

The second person next to Fliphook that helped in some ways even if it's the smallest amount. Occasionally popping in when I'm making a implication or alias or when I'm making a suggestion that someone already made and the one thing that I consider the most important is when I was informed on how the implication/alias works and how to deny my own requests.

One of the two people in the blips while I was still there almost always there to contribute to conversations or questions I asked and the person next to SNPtheCat popping in with the alias/implication requests I make. One question I have for you is about the topic of country music I had on the blips a while ago. How do you think country music should go to expect more good music? Because honestly, the country that's here now is beyond stereotypical (which is why I jokingly refer to it as yeehaw tracks) and has less flavor than ice water. Although to be fair, now that I had time to think about it, I never heard a country song I go out of my way to hear, just something I tolerate at best. But anyways, I think the best solution is to somehow have the mainstream country die out and have the indie country scene fill in those shoes in hopes for something more worthwhile.

Your Duracell project from a while back in the blips you shared reminded me of a mod I was making for a game. It was just a simple music replacement thing I was doing from the middle to the end of 2023 and some of 2024. I had a theme I was going for and was doing surprisingly great with the progress and had the audio levels consistent but hit a wall with finding the right amount of silence for the music loop to not be awkward with a pause, clipping sound or have some of the music cut off. But when I did, I came across a new issue of not having enough variety for my liking so I decided to change a few things and unfortunately along the way I got myself in burnout from how often I was playing the game for a certain mechanic (keeping it vague as possible for the off chance someone could somehow figure out the account there is me or what game I'm making the mod for if I ever do finish it or make a new one from scratch).

user 370094 aka Kemonophonic

The main person on the blips who pretty much never failed to give some sort of a response even if it was as short as a sentence which bothered me at first until I realized that if there was no interest in my comments it would've just been ignored. Fliphook actually recommended going to blips and talking on there and that's how I got there, came across Kemonophonic and stuck around for so long. Unfortunate to have seen Kemonophonic leave but from what I'm seeing it was bound to happen. There was several forum posts discussing the blacklist and how it doesn't work and there was a situation with Kemonophonic tagging posts and adding "so my fucking blacklist works" for the reason and hiding the comments made on posts. Even if the mods didn't say something, I'm sure there was a breaking point that was going to be reached eventually.

General questions

1. When was the lore tags a thing? I feel like that was only around for a few years. When I was here before without an account years ago, I could've sworn that wasn't a thing or I'm misremembering.
2. What was your first game or anime? The first game I remember playing is either a Spiderman plug-n-play or the original Super Mario Bros. on a bootleg console. And for my first anime I think it was Inuyasha from toonami or Naruto from Cartoon Network way back when.
3. Got any foods that bring back memories? For me it's tootsie rolls, some flavor of fries from restaurants that remind me of a old seafood place I was at called Captain D's (I think that's the name) and how their fries tasted back in the day and cheese flavored Ruffles (although in the case of the Ruffles I got sick of eating them from how much I ate them when I was younger and nowadays I'm disgusted by those chips).

Honestly surprised to see what I had planned be smaller than expected, but at least that means there's no walls of text to read for anyone interested to have to look through.

intial questions

I reached out because his site was my first attempt into socializing with the "outside" world

it started with one comment and i watched how it did. Made another comment and slowly built up courage from there.
But I also wasn't the first to reach out. Someone contacted me for something that I attempted to do. They informed me of my... mistake I guess you can call it. I corrected myself and had that feeling of a more personal social interaction implanted in me. I liked it and decided to try that some more.
like the one who messaged me about my mistake I did the same with another user about their misinformation. I got no response but I saw they understood and left it at that and continued helping anyone else that I thought needed it. I have gotten positive responses so I guess I'm doing a good.

From the buildup of messages my DMs can be divided into 4 subjects: informing, staff/tickets, find the artist/source/image, and some silliness sprinkled about. This is the first time I've checked how many DMs I've sent and received and am surprised that it's nearly 600 combined. I never would have guessed it. You are currently somewhere near the midpoint of my mailbox.

My DMs here have slowed a bit, mostly now being links to inform a user I have found what they have been looking for in the sticky forum. Now much of my time has been spent on the e621 discord where I'm feeling pretty confident in my socializationing. faster responses in real time and so many common interests!

general questions

the lore tags, I dunno

my first game/ anime
I first played on the original NES eons ago. I can't remember the very first one I played. little Nemo dream master really stands out to me though. As for the anime, I didn't know what cartoon was American or Japanese at the time so I'll say pokemon as it has impacted me the most but we do have one black and white episode on VHS tape of Gigantor (Tetsujin 28-go)

memory foods
a basic breakfast: eggs, bacon, waffles, hasbrowns. our family never did a big Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. anytime there was a big holiday like that or a special occasion we'd have a big breakfast to keep our hunger at bay while we focused on the special event such as a holiday or when we would get to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain with our season passes.

I'm right here lol. I've been back for a while.

to be fair, Grab-n-Stash hasn't been around Blips for the past 4 months and, without seeing the "currently listening" blips, it's not quite as easy to tell.

yeah, I don't think the problem is with the genre itself, it seems to me to be more a problem with its sect of the industry. the genericisation of popular music (and honestly, popular media in general) is not something unique to country, but for some reason the boring, generic stuff seems to get pushed even more than it does in other genres.

there's still occasionally pretty decent stuff that I've heard. and occasionally-er it even actually gets fairly popular, like Old Town Road.

and also, it's probably not fair to say this, but I still definitely don't think that there's anyone recently who's come close to doing what Cash managed to do decades ago. and, honestly, that's really not even a just country music thing.

When all you come across is mediocre or just bad, it's not hard to see why you get that mindset. Unfair sure, but understandable if you believe no one has yet come close to prove you wrong.

Got a bit confused about what is been celebrated but it's Grab account anniversary so gratz, have a nice week man.

Edit: Mine is two days later it seems lol.

oh, I was sent a dmail about this back in December.

although, the message was mostly asking why I'd changed my username to "Maryland P. Sevenson" and then back.

What was your first game or anime?

First game for me was either Asteroids on the Atari 7800 or Alex Kidd In Miracle World on the Sega Master System II.

First anime was Samurai Pizza Cats.

Happy you like it, brotha! Inspiration is key to my music. I love what I do. ๐Ÿ˜„

And to answer your question for #2, my very first (first person shooter) actually was Goldeneye for the N64.
