Yeah, "mutant" is like alien. Very TWYK, and not every work even uses the word to mean the same thing. It could range from things like birth defects, to the aftermath of things like radiation poisoning, to odd anatomy like an extra limb, a work-specific well-defined concept like Mutant Neopet, or superpowers.

The pluralism here just seems like a way to try to dance around the invalidation.
