Topic: Are edits to wiki pages made by admins to be treated as rules?

Regarding wiki entry https://e621.net/wiki_pages/2577

I have somebody telling me admin edits to wiki pages regarding user conduct are not enforceable as rules.

But apparently that snipped you took, was added into wiki page for the tag month ago, it's actually not part of any rules, so admin just removed comments to avoid drama.
...
At least that part in your screenshot, it's not from rules, it's from wiki for use of the tag: https://e621.net/wiki_pages/2577
I could not find this in actual rules. Wrong/malicious tagging would break rules, but nobody tagged the artist.
...
wiki for tag is for useage of the tag, it's not enforcable as rule even if admin made the edit.

From what I can see, admin "spe" was the last to edit the wiki page, adding:
"If you recognize the artist, please do not tag the artist or state who it is in the comments. Doing so intentionally may be considered grounds for a record against your account."

source: https://e621.net/wiki_page_versions/diff?otherpage=171577&thispage=144561&commit=Diff

So my question is, is an admin's edit to the wiki expected to be treated/enforced as a rule?

Thanks,
- Muki

This does remind me of many cases where users have checked wiki for artist tags, not seeing conditions or DNP, then still getting record for posting avoid posting content as the artist was on the official list.
However that was just users and staff adding them there manually and unofficially and that was not enforcable either way.

But this was before we had more robust DNP system and the current system does add it at the top of artist page (only artist page, not wiki page).

I would still claim same here, as we are talking about unprotected pages for tags, not site related wiki pages, it should not be upon users to be able to know that they need to check edit history to verify it was admin and not user who edited that.

Identifying an anonymous artists has gotten user's records well before a month ago.

Unprotected wikis can be edited by anyone, and protected wikis may be out of date.

Also an admin may have said something 10 years ago, but were they staff then?

That's usually why it's smart to ask, like you have.

We can't see tickets any more and not everyone trawls through feedback

It should just check the artist tags you add and warn you... that's very much a noob-killer property of the process.

And besides, all this is mostly non-sense, as it's forums (and sometimes, posts/DMs) where people talk about the definitions of tags. There's examples and references in Wiki articles for a reason.

So this basically means that there is section in the rules, under which these situations have been given record for, but admin was nice enough to put note about that in the artist wiki as well, so that people wouldn't have to scroll through kilometer of text, just to find if that's acceptable or not.

Meaning this answers the original question: edits to regular wiki pages are not enforceable as rules, even if they were put there by admin.
They are simply notes that people have gotten records for this kind of behavior, but the actual rule is in the rules. I'm not admin so I'm not entirely sure under which section these situations have been given record for but I'm certain we don't have specific rule for situation of naming anonymoys artist, but that it's under broader rule.

it would likely fall under Disruptive Behavior and/or Tagging, Rating, and Sourcing Abuse, depending on the situation
