Topic: Change in artist name and their tag

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I haven't been able to find much on this issue, so I'd rather ask. I recently decided to change my username as an artist on my social media due to privacy reasons, but have been struggling to find an option to change the artist tag that is associated with my art.

Obviously I could just edit the tag and be done with it, but the issue arises in the fact that the etiap tag is verified to my e6 account.

Is there either a way to rename the tag such that it remains verified to my account (and so that I don't have to edit all my posts), or, if not, how should I go about unverifying the tag?

I think that stuff would be transferred over if you were to request an alias from your old alias to the new one and it was accepted, I'm not 100% on that, though.

It should be automatic (i have never seen an admin say either way on this issue (but the fact they (the admins) don't transfer if a tag already has an artist page indicates it's auto)) but if not, it's easily transferable

Thing is, I want to actually get rid of the original tag altogether from the e6 databases, just to be safe, and have it replaced with the new one. Sure, a tag alias can easily rename all posts containing the old tag, and theoretically also keep the verification, but the old tag will still exist, which is why this is an issue in the first place. But I don't know whether this issue is something I can easily solve by myself or if I'll have to reach out to a janitor/admin to help me get rid of the tag...

aliasing is just about the closest you can get to toally "getting rid" of a tag. the old tag can no longer appear on posts and anyone who tries to add it to a post or tries to search for it will be redirected to the new tag.

Well, not exactly. There are several different interpretations of "getting rid of a tag". Removing all posts from it and adding them to another tag is the closest one can get to deleting said tag from existence.

A tag with 0 posts is basically invisible and pretty difficult to find unless you're competent with e6. An alias would make it known that the tag exists and has been aliased.

@FroakieAxiom just go dmail NotMeNotYou and request a mass update from the tag to your intended tag, and to unverify from etiap and verify to intended tag

(mass update isn't needed since you have 4 posts, and you can just get a janitor to move verifications, but checking with nmny doesn't hurt)

I guess you could also request that old name get aliased to invalid_tag, which has been done a couple of times. that will mean trying to add or search for the old name would result in it redirecting to that instead.

although in my opinion, that's probably the worst option, since it kinda defeats the point. seeing that may encourage someone to investigate further when they might've just left it if there was no results.

EDIT: how'd I even manage to double type so much of this post?

Yep. Kinda like how the alias makes anonymous character kinda moot

if that's my best option then I guess I'll do that, thank you ^^

and you're right, I only have 4 posts so it should be fine if I do the tag updating myself
