Topic: Suggestions for my blacklist to avoid feral stuff

Posted under General

I'm fairly new to this site and I'm aware most of the users don't care about feral and other related which is whatever for me I know what I'm getting into but I'd like to avoid that sorta art whenever I can but my blacklist lets stuff slip through. This is my blacklist (feral rating:explicit -pokemon -mythological_creature -monster -robot -digimon -monster_hunter -alien -semi-anthro) as you can see I'm fine with magical, terato, or cartoony stuff I just don't want to see like a normal horse or dog while still being able to see like anthro pokemon since they can be classified as animals or ferals sometimes. My blacklist is imperfect it'll let a regular horse go through cause it's showing an alien person with it or it'll hide art that has anthro or semi anthro cause the character is from something not included in the tags. Mainly I just want some suggestions for how to see less feral stuff when looking at aliens or wtv. I am aware there'll never be a perfect solution since this sorta stuff is subjective like I've seen pokemon art that makes them look like normal animals especially with the horses but I'd like some advice from people who also don't like seeing normal feral or jesus maybe even those who do but know the tags well lol. thanks for the help.

Not really much more that you can do - it's one of the more common complaints about the feral tag. Most ways, like what your blacklist has, break down when you have multiple characters.

That makes sense at the very least I'm glad my blacklist is like others I was afraid I was doing something horribly wrong lol

You have it down about as good as you'll get. There's a tag I use- realistic_feral which, while it needs a rename and overhaul, is what serves for a tag to label ferals that are shaped like animals. You might catch some fantasy critters that are animal shaped, but unless you're one of those "realistic dragons and unicorns are okay" people that shouldn't be too big a problem.

I'll look into that thanks for the advice!

If your priority is not seeing certain content, then making your blacklist more restrictive is recommended, as long as you are okay with missing out on false positives. Every exception you add can bring false negatives to your eyes, especially with larger character counts.

For example imagine a post with 4 characters: the focus is a threesome between a pikachu, a dragon and a robot, and there is a nonsexualized butterfly in the background just minding its business. All 4 are feral. Now imagine another post with 4 characters: the focus is a threesome between a cat, a dog and a rabbit, and there is a nonsexualized butterfree in the background just minding its business. All 4 are feral.

You probably want to see the first post, but you can't distinguish it from the second post using your blacklist. You have to weigh the "i want to see this" against the "i don't want to see that".

One of the best things to do when something slips through the cracks is tag the untagged content, which is one of the most common reasons something would slip through other than tagging limitations. It'll help others who blacklist the same content not see it. People on this site are abysmally bad at tagging obvious and very common tags (especially anthro) so tagging it also helps clean things up and make things easy to search and filter. Sometimes content may be mistagged too, don't assume all tags are correct.

This is less about that and more about like, an image of an arcanine boinking a feral dog. A correctly tagged image of this would get through the described blacklist filter.

That's probably about as good as it's going to get. For searching purposes, I sometimes use feral copytags:>0 or feral copytags:0, which mainly "works" (loosely speaking) because copyrighted characters tend to be more toony, notably due to the existence of pokemon/digimon. However, you already have pokemon/digimon as explicit exceptions in your blacklist.

Oh, then yeah, you've done everything you can.

That makes sense I'll just have to take the good with the bad which is fine by be given how I navigate the site. I find out that I see more of the accidental blocked stuff when looking at an artists work than if I were to just go through the general pokemon tag simply cause there's more straight forward feral in the general tags than specific artists. This actually reminds me of the artists StoragePC while not about feral some of their work is hidden since it's tagged as young even though the artists on their twitter said her character is an adult. In that case I feel a little more comfortable unblocking real quick to see what's hidden to see the art than if I did it with every pokemon art with size differences yk? anyway thank you for your input it's very helpful

Thanks for all the advice I'm glad to know I did about as much as I can with the tags I'll probably check out some of the advice later like the realistic feral or copytags and see how well it works

Have you heard of the tag adult_(lore)? you can always modify your blacklist to allow posts the artist says isn't young

I have actually yeah! I've made the blacklist be so it removes all posts with the tag young barring ratings with an s or with the adult_(lore) tag. it's not 100 percent since there's that 1000 year old dragon stuff and not all of storagepc's work has the adult tag but 1. that's expected so it's wtv and 2. if I've gathered anything from these comments nothing will be perfect lol.

Tag it when it's not there, or carve an exception to storagepc

I just tagged the posts with the oc pechy as adult_(lore) since shes tagged as adult in some other posts but I decided to leave two posts that are labeled with young since they don't have the oc. Storagepc's twitter bio does say all characters are adults but I thought I should be careful and only add tags posts where I'm positive the character is an adult.
