I'm not aware of any official policy, but the tags exist and are in use. You can propose a BUR to make them invalid tags if you think that's wiser.

There are posts such as post #4812874 where mental illness is explicitly stated.

I suppose there is utility in having the ability to blacklist posts that include themes of mental illness. But I feel like these specific disorder tags are just going to be misused based on people's incorrect understanding of what the disorder looks like. Or people using them in a TWYK fashion where the only real reason we know the post is trying to portray a specific disorder is because the artist said so.

Schizophrenia already seems to be frequently used on posts where there's no explicit mention of the disorder, and there isn't enough information in the scene to "diagnose" the character in the post. Because with TWYS the tagger is essentially going to have to diagnose the character with the mental disorder based on the information contained in the post.

But since there might be value in allowing people to blacklist posts with these kinds of themes, I don't actually know what to do with this tag or other tags like it.

Should they be lore, then?

In the case of schizophrenia we do have a hallucination tag, which might be sufficient to replace it.
