Topic: [Feature] Automatic similar images search for upload page or add a link to it from the upload page

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Yes it already stops you from uploading hash duplicates but only after you've already entered in all the info and tags and such just to find out it's already on the site but no one bothered to tag it properly.
It would be convenient if it could after the image was selected either automatically check or give the option to manually check if duplicate or similar images already exist.
Even just having a link to the similar images search page from somewhere on the upload page would be convenient.

Then just copy-paste your tags onto the existing post and give yourself a pat on the back.

It is not uncommon for you to find a post that hasn't been uploaded yet, spend an hour or so meticulously tagging it, only to find that someone else has swiped the post from under you and posted it with the minimal number of tags 50 minutes ago.

If you're going for active really popular artists, yeah
there are certain people here that will snipe uploads less than 60 seconds after released

Which makes hitting them with the svats because you are in contact with the artist/commissioner and got the superior version oh-so satisfying.

I've always wondered how people manage to do that.
Sometimes I see a new post from an artist and notice It has already been reposted on here like one or two minutes after the original upload.
(Not including stuff uploaded by the artists directly on here of course)
How is that even possible!?

Sitting on the patreon version until the public one releases?

A few people seemed to be scrapers/scripts, I remember a privileged user getting some records a bit ago for upload sniping and barely tagging the images in the race to be the attributed uploader. Not sure if that was automated, but it’s definitely skeevy to do.

We have dinged people (one person) for pirating content to pre-tag it, though that's extremely hard to prove
...who's to say these guys don't have a patreon sub to 20 different artists 🫠

I guess that explains how they could tag it so fast, if the artist has a patreon. (I think I've also seen that with artists, that don't have one. But I'm not sure honestly)
Still, all that in the span of one or two minutes after the public release is still incredibly fast.
So they probably have some kind of script to detect a public release of an image, I guess?
Seems a lot of effort just to be the one to upload it here, though...🙃
