Topic: [Feature] Use post replacement feature on deleted posts

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Right now when trying to replace a deleted post, the site returns the error message Post is deleted.

I assume this is intentional, however sometimes there is a valid reason to create a post replacement for a deleted post.
For example, if a sound edit version of a post gets deleted because the video has worse quality than the original silent version.
In this case, replacing the post with a corrected version would make sense, as this would eliminate the reason for the post deletion.
Like post #5247368, which is the post I've tried to replace before running into this issue.

I don't think there is really much of a problem with allowing users (with replacement permission) to create post replacements for deleted posts, since these have to be approved by mods anyways.
So there is not much of a vandalism opportunity there.

It is 100% intentional, there is no point in undeleting the post just to replace it with something else
A new post should be uploaded instead

Fair enough.
I just thought that this way the original comments could be preserved, which was one of the reasons (I assume) the post replacements was created for.
This means if someone had been "fast enough" and added a post replacement before the flag went though, that would have been fine?

Also in that specific example, there was a new post uploaded, but got also deleted for being "previously deleted". ( see post #5250082 )
Though the filesize seems to be significantly larger than the original version, so it was probably another bad conversion.

As the deletion reason says: "Artificial upscale", rather than putting the audio on the original video they upscaled the twitter version
I actually meant to fix that post a while back, I'm gonna go do that now

Ah that makes sense.
The "Artificial upscale" confused me a bit, because that post had the same resolution as the original silent version. Didn't think it was upscaled from twitter rather than using the existing high quality version.
