Reason: I don't believe these emotional states are meaningfully different. Any arguments to the contrary?

Alarm is specifically negative, and can be anticipatory. Surprise is shock in a moment. I yesterday for me, posted this image that has at least one wonderful demostration of alarm without surprise.
EG: Muko is horrified and alarmed at how much Freydar must have trained to not have boobs anymore.

Hm, perhaps. I will note, however, that alarmed is severely undertagged (only 65 posts at current posting), which makes me believe it may be overly specific and better lumped with another emotion tag. If nothing else, it should probably have a wiki page explaining the difference from surprise.

I think alarmed is probably much closer to shocked than surprised. That's probably a better alias target.
