butt_expansion is used far more than butt_growth and the few valid growth tags that there are already are for limbs that grow out of the body.

*_growth is generally for when a character is gaining a new extremity, *_expansion is for when what a character already has is made larger.

so, that just leaves the question; are there any posts where a character that lacks an ass grows one, or a character who already has an ass grows a second one?

That's what the wikis say but there's been debate on that, since a number of them are regularly mixed up, and the terms "growth" and "expansion" don't delineate the distinction (it's common parlance to use the word "grow" for something that exists getting bigger, e.g. a child grows into an adult, or a sapling grows into a tree). There's also the issue that it's can be difficult to tell whether something is considered new or not (e.g. a flat face to a snout, or fingernails to claws). The idea was put forth to alias them together to _growth, since "expansion" brings to mind some kind of stretching or ballooning action which wouldn't apply in all cases of something growing (it sounds weird to say "hair expansion" for hair growing longer or thicker, or "ear expansion" for a human ear moving up and growing pointier and furrier like a wolf's ear). A separate term like "sprouting" could be used where it's clear that a new extremity is gained.

I agree with "sprouting" for gaining a new thing, much more intuitive. Good idea

I think butt_expansion is the less ambiguous term, if we're going to alias these together that would be the better target. the problem is that we generally consider "growth" and "expansion" diffrent things. but in this case, I don't think the tags are used (or really _could be_ used) in a different enough way to warrant separation.
