Topic: Tag alias: caught_off_guard -> caught

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The only difference I can think of is being caught intentionally and expecting it rather than being off guard, though the wiki does say "Tag only if the character actually seems bothered by being caught. If not, exhibitionism might be appropriate."

It looks like caught_off_guard is used more generally. Where caught is specifically for "at least one character engaging in some kind of sexual activity", caught_off_guard includes being caught wearing another's clothes, being spotted nude, or being sus. Caught also says it's only for being caught "by another character or characters", whereas caught_off_guard includes characters being surprised by the viewer (which doesn't count as a character, if no part of the viewer's body is visible).

Incidentally, caught also says it's used "only if the character actually seems bothered by being caught", but it seems to me that it should also apply when the characters doing sexual things are unaware that they've been spotted by another character.

Though it also seems caught is heavily overused, with plenty of examples that don't have some kind of sexual activity, nor another visible character catching them. So maybe this all needs a massive cleanup and reorganization (the word is rather generic, after all).

Great points! Perhaps caught should remain mostly as it is, but cleaned up and with the addition you mentioned about being spotted secretly, and imply caught_off_guard as the umbrella term? That way caught is used for only explicit actions being seen by another character who wasn't supposed to see them, while the umbrella term is for non-sexual acts as well, and for the viewer or other characters "catching" the main character.

Regardless, I agree that the alias shouldn't be made.
