Topic: [REJECTED] Tag implication: barn -> farm

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

this sounds stupid, but its basically the same arguments with characters not implying species, just because a barn is there, doesn't mean its a farm.
like in theory, a barn is just another building, so it could be built in the middle of a city.
weird? yes
possible? also yes

Im not sure if others think the same way, but this is how I would think about it.

Reason: It seems to me like anywhere that there is a barn, it's on a farm, even if it's a small one attached to someone's home for personal use.

That is sound logic, except that barn can be tagged when the image depicts the inside of the barn, and in that case, the tag farm wouldn't apply since it's TWYS and you wouldn't be able to see any actual farm.

A recognizable barn could exist in a tumble-down, overgrown field, say in a ghost town. Sure, there might used to have been a farm there, but not any more. Or the farm could have been bought out by some other industry, and the barn, though still a barn, is repurposed for something other than farm equipment and hay bales.

The point is that a farm doesn't necessarily have to stay a farm forever, but the barn could very easily still be around and recognizable long after the farm is gone.

It's tag what you see. If the image contains are barn but doesn't clearly show a farm, don't tag farm. It would cause issues for images that have barns but no farms present in the image. I agree with the others.

This is actually an interesting topic to discuss, given this site's usage of barn seems to be more just general "farm building" than the specific definitions of barns (which change dependant on locale anyway). Implication is still a no-go, of course, but perhaps some discussion regarding stables, byres, pens, stys, goat towers, farmhouses, sheds, and barns, and if they should all have their own tags, or be lumped under a general tag, is prudent?
