Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: compact_disc -> cd

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #58832 compact_disc -> cd has been rejected.

Reason: Alias the full name (2) to the abbreviation (104). They both mean the same thing - the optical disc format introduced in the 1980s, with 120 mm diameter discs, carrying uncompressed audio.

is it even possible to tell the difference between a CD and any other optical disc (dvd, blu-ray, uhh... hddvd) in a drawn medium? maybe they should all just be aliased together.

-1 to aliasing them all to just disc, while the discs themselves are near identical (and i do think that a raw disc in an art piece should simply be tagged as optical_disc blu-rays, dvds, hd-dvd heck even cds all have very distinct packaging styles that i think warrants tagging (especially blu-rays with their blue case)

If it's shown in a location that wouldn't make sense for a non-CD, such as in a CD player. If it's just lying around on its own with no context on how it should be used, optical_disc is likely better.

TWYS, context does not mater, only what it looks like.

I thought this would be simple, like a "plural to singular" alias. I guess not. :)

Devo, a friendly turtle, and Mariah Carey are disappoint. :D

I agree with this. Some of the posts already tagged cd show someone listening to headphones or a boom box - something that can't display video. There are also posts with no player visible, but the disc is from a known band. You could be pretty confident that these are audio CDs.

There are some other posts that have bare discs (no jewel case) on the floor in front of an entertainment center that also has a gaming console and a TV set. Those could be audio CDs, a movie on DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray, or a video game data disc. Those would probably be better as just optical_disc.

There is a disappointing lack of posts tagged yellow_book, high_sierra, iso_9660, and el_torito. >_>
