"Br'er" is, of course, short for "brother" in the dialect of the U.S.'s Deep South, at least a century and a half ago. Br'er Rabbit was a major character in the Uncle Remus stories written by Joel Chandler Harris to record the struggles of African-Americans in the Deep South, especially the plantations, through their animal folktales. Disney would later make an adaptation called Song of the South that merged live-action with animation, and Ralph Bakshi would create an anti-racism satire inspired by the stories.
