Topic: Tag alias: damsel_in_distress -> submissive_female

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #56955 damsel_in_distress -> submissive_female has been rejected.

Reason: "damsel_in_distress" just seems to be the "bound" (mostly) + "female" tag. Seems like an unnecessary use for "bondage" tag. DID's theme seems to center around women in distress which is already the "submissive_female" tag (same with GID which is for "submissive_male")

EDIT: The tag alias damsel_in_distress -> submissive_female (forum #330675) has been rejected by @bitWolfy.

I was under the impression that for every submissive_*, there needs to be a dominant_* counterpart otherwise it would not qualify as submissive.

I would say this is the case. To be submissive, a character needs to be submitting (forcibly or willingly) to someone. Similarly, to be dominant, a character needs to be dominating (forcibly or willingly) someone. A solo bound character is just that: bound.

Do correct me if I'm wrong though since I don't remember where I had read that.

submissive_* solo gets a few too many hits for me to think that's the case (if they're solo, there's definitely no dominant counterpart).

I don’t think that’s right. Characters can exhibit submissive or dominant behavior with or without the presence of other characters. This is especially obvious in the case of a character interacting with an offscreen character or a POV character that are technically present in the scene but don’t qualify for character counts. leashed_pov provides some good examples of a solo dominant, for example.

Quite possibly there hasn't been a clear consensus. As it is, the submissive and dominant tags are heavily over-tagged (post #3215094 is submissive, really?). Quite a lot of posts with submissive_pov are mistagged as there's no visible indication of the POV character, which is explicitly required for *_pov tags since they implicate first_person_view, and in turn implicate submissive when there isn't even a submissive character present. It doesn't help either when tags like big dom small sub are used for larger_penetrating/smaller_penetrated situations, which implicates dominant. Not to mention all the sub/dom posts that are tagged such simply because two characters are having sex, with no indication of any power dynamic for sub/dom play (a character taking dick is automatically submissive, and a character giving dick is automatically dominant, according to some).

quite true. Also dominant/submissive tagging does not always 100% guarantee it will be used in a sexual context. For instance a in fantasy setting (like in skyrim), a dunmer whipping an argonian slave to do work or holding a weapon to a taken hostage can suggest sub/dom behavior despite it not being any form of role play

I just don't see what makes DID (or GID) tag a unique tag compared to bound
