Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: tranny -> invalid_tag

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #56781 tranny -> invalid_tag has been approved.

Reason: Let's just nip that in the bud before any more trolls have this idea.

There's no valid alias target anyway, even presuming anyone applying this tag is doing it in good faith.

EDIT: The tag alias tranny -> invalid_tag (forum #329248) has been approved by @bitWolfy.

My only problem with this is it'll make it slightly less difficult to detect trolls if they're just adding "invalid_tag" to posts instead of slurs.

But I guess at that point.. it's much less of a problem.

It would still fall under Tagging Abuse / Tagging Vandalism regardless.

why invalidate it? just alias it to trans_(lore)

1) trans_(lore) is not a valid tag on its own, like intersex.
2) It is vanishingly unlikely that anybody using this tag is doing so in a good-faith attempt to adhere to either the gender tagging guidelines or the character owner's wishes.
3) The character may not even be trans at all, in which case this is still vandalism, and now much harder to detect.

I agree with that stance in general, since we should alias to invalid_tag only if there is no useful of the tag.

However, as trans_(lore) cannot be directly observed in the image, vandalism caused by the use of tranny would be very hard to fix.

If the argument is whether or not fixing the tag is easy, then I would say visibly_trans would be a good alias target, as you can subtract the tags associated for the needs there of from the search such as something along the lines of visibly_trans -mastectomy_scar (I don't know many trans related tags but you get my point) Along with the fact that visibly_trans is something that any user who notices both the tag and the content of the post could attribute if the tag is invalidly being added.

Because "tranny" is a slur. It's not a question about whether the tag is sufficiently or insufficiently descriptive; it's because anyone who uses it is an asshole.

Many tags considered slurs are aliased to the non-slur version. aliasing it to invalid tag would also not let people know that "hey, it wasn't just a case someone replacing one tag with one that's invalid, they were making an effort to be rude as well"

Ah, I see what you mean now.

I can see the levels of stupid from POV provided by disambiguation lens: Imagine having to have a tag for transmissions (in cars), for some stupid reason fetish reasons. Only non-offensive use of that word in decades is for car geeks, right?

I've seen it used in reference to electrical transformers transistors for computer components. Though it was only one (non-American) person I saw using the term that way, so I couldn't say how wide spread it is.

Various tech guys refer to transisters as trannies, especially outside of the U.S.. Back before it was also used as a slur for a transgender person, tech guys referred to transister radios as trannies, however as more and more people started using it to refer to transgender people in the U.S., it kind of dropped out of usage. Over in the outback, people(especially the older generation) still refer to transisters as trannies.

It is kind of the same issue with the master/slave terminology in tech, some insist on using it because "that's just what it's called.", others push for change because the word has a additional meaning. Whether someone finds it's usage is subject to opinion. However, I don't see someone tagging a transister or transmission as "tranny" on e621, so I'd say invalidating it is probably the best course of action. If this were a electrical engineering forum or a motorhead forum, I'd say differently, but the amount of car and electrical content we have is super tiny to the point I doubt most furries would even know tranny had other meanings other than being a slur.

This site is 80% porn, it's likely someone searching "tranny" might do it for that reason. same with "shemale" "cunt boy" and the like.

You just used it.. That's a perfect example of why it needs to be more specific, unless you mean "use it" as in changing tags not litterally as in using a word like in these comments.

That's spelled with an "i" not "y" though.
