Topic: Tag alias: frankenstein's_monster -> Frankenstein

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #56597 frankenstein's_monster -> frankenstein has been rejected.

Reason: The tags are currently used interchangeably. I would suggest aliasing them and creating a separate Doctor Frankenstein tag

EDIT: The tag alias frankenstein's_monster -> frankenstein (forum #327410) has been rejected by @Rainbow_Dash.

It would probably be better to disambiguate/invalidate frankenstein, with the wiki suggesting frankenstein's monster or doctor frankenstein.

I'd be willing to implement that if we could get a solid TWYS definition for distinguishing victor_frankenstein and frankenstein's_monster from regular old mad_scientists and patchwork_creatures.

People retell the story all the time, and use the same names for very different looking characters. The movie/cartoon versions mostly have the bolts-through-the-neck, green skin, and cylindrical head. But the text-accurate monster is strikingly handsome, with transparent skin. Victor Frankenstein himself is usually nondescript. bride_of_frankenstein at least has the beehive hairdo.

Also, some characters from other properties share the traits but are explicitly distinct, e.g. sally_(tnbc) post #2072716. What about weird japanese remixes? post #2481348 has a character with bolts in the neck, teal patchwork skin, lightning bolt hair. But it's visually distinct enough I don't think it's "just" frankenstein's_monster. And there's the issue of Halloween costumes, and the tradition of redrawing characters as alternate species e.g. post #2037874. Characters that reference frankenstein's_monster but are not him. Troublesome.

I think probably a reanimation scene would be enough to justify the character tag? e.g. the monster on the slab, doctor watching with the goggles, "throw the lever, Igor!". I'm also inclined to say anything that looks "halloweeny"--orange moons, candy and bats and pumpkins, is more likely to be frankenstein's_monster than a patchwork_creature. And if there's one of the three golden traits--green skin, bolts in the head or neck, that's another vote in favor the character over the species.

BTW, I vote for victor_frankenstein instead of doctor_frankenstein as the canonical full name.

Yes, exactly. I should have opened a bulk request for this. Brain fart. Argh.

Yes, this is basically the issue I had. Searching for Frankenstein-related things was needlessly difficult because it’s under multiple poorly distinguished tags that most people don’t seem to differentiate. I found it annoying and started submitting requests.

Again, I’m terribly sorry for forgetting to include reasons and not making a bulk request like I should have. I’m normally fastidious about providing reasons and I think the site updates threw me for a loop or something else went wrong with my brain fart. I’ll do better.
