I’m not sure if cloaks should be considered a subset of capes or not. They’re essentially just hooded capes, no? That might be a valid implication as well.

According to Wikipedia:

Well, this is more complicated than I expected.

At this point, is there a meaningful distinction between a cape and a cloak from a tagging perspective? Are most people going to be aware of this difference and tag appropriately? So far, it doesn’t appear to be the case. Posts tagged with cape seem to be tagged as such regardless of length. cloaks mostly seem to have hoods. But, as Wikipedia even says, sometimes both terms are used interchangeably for the full-length garment. Perhaps we use one term for the both of them, regardless of length in order to keep things simpler, and have a separate tag like hooded_cloak for the hooded variety (or just repurpose the current cloak tag for that)?

This might be best. Considering that, these days, we normally think of cloaks as having hoods and capes without hoods, we probably should just keep it simple and just tag it as one or the other depending on whether there's a hood present. That way, there's no need for us to have to learn the fiddly bits of cape and cloak fashion in order to tag the things.
