Topic: Removing invalid tags / invalid_bg from deleted posts?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I would say yes, with a caveat. I personally would like to see invalid_tag auto-deleted after some time (a few days or weeks at most)*, but the last words on the topic that I'm aware of is to leave it be if you're not going to do a more thorough check of the given post's tags. So if you delete it, make sure to also clean up other invalid, bad, or _(disambiguous) tags you see on the post.

(*) Given the 9k+ current uses, it's way too daunting I think to most people to go through them manually. I could spend a full day on it and not make a dent. On older and deleted posts especially, invalid_tag is more just creating clutter on both the posts' tag lists, and the tag auto-suggestion since its count is causing aliased tags to suggest invalid_tag over valid ones for certain suggestions (e.g. mons causes the suggestion monster_cock -> invalid_tag to appear above what I'm actually trying to use, chan gives the suggestion change -> invalid_tag as the top pick).

We should remove the tags from the invalid category and disambiguation tags while fixing an invalid tag?

post #2566062

I'll go through my post edit history and revisit the posts where I only fixed the invalid_background tag, then:

post #296083

Fixing invalid_tags is so dauting, because most of the time the uploader throw a bunch of pretty subjective tags and tags that seems to be unrelated. So I get pretty weary of removing them and getting a neutral with tagging abuse or something. If could I would simply reset everything and tag the entire post from the ground up... sometimes is that bad. (;-⠀⠀;

There's also posts with tags related to kinks that I'm not that experienced to fix. So I only fix what I can and let the rest for someone else, which were the case for some of the posts I fixed. Anyway, I like the idea of deleted posts with invalid_tags being cleared of their invalid tags automatically.

Trying to also contribute with an idea, I thought into this:
Hopefully is understandable

Adding on that. If it was feasible the amount of invalid_tags you put on posts should also go to the formula of your upload limit. For example my upload limit is calculate as follow:

10 + (54 / 10) - (5 / 4) - 0 = 14

But I have 9 invalid tags on my history wich would also should go to this formula:

10 + (54 / 10) - (5 / 4) - (9 / 10) - 0 = 14

So if I had at least 1 more invalid tag it would be discounted from my upload limit and it would decrease by 1. I think that this should slow down the amount of people putting invalid tags. Like I've seem a entire set with an invalid_tag as if the uploader simply copy pasted the tags and didn't verify... It's exhausting seeing something like that...

For invalid_tag itself, at least. The reasoning being that if a post ended up with invalid_tag, the post probably has questionable if not broken tagging that should be fixed (and as invalid_tag offers no hint as to what was meant, any number of other problems may exist on the post). Individual disambiguation and Invalid-category tags should more speak for themselves, though. Invalid_background, for instance, should be fine to remove along with fixing the background-related tags, but not worrying about any other disambiguation or Invalid-category tags a post may have.
