Topic: Tag implication: holding_knife -> holding_object

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I propose instead something like,
holding_knife > holding_bladed_object
holding_dagger > holding_bladed_object
holding_sword > holding_bladed_object
holding_axe > holding_bladed_object
holding_bladed_object > holding_weapon

Do we need a holding_bladed_object tag?

My only note on this would be that not every bladed object is necessarily a weapon.

they can all easily be used as one

Yeah, I'm not sure about the holding_bladed_object / holding_weapon suggestion.

A knife can be both a weapon, a tool, and a utensil. I would not call a butter knife a weapon.

Yeah, but so can a hammer. Doesn't mean all hammers are weapons.

I would consider them blunt weapons yes. They were war devises long before they were tools

Holding_melee_weapon is also a pre-existing tag. I'd personally vote for utilizing it, rather than a holding_bladed_object tag. Holding_axe, holding_hammer, and holding_knife should implicate straight to holding_object, though, for the aforementioned reasons of them being used as tools / utensils and not always weapons. They would have to be individually tagged as a weapon or tool/utensil on a case-by-case basis.

If you want to argue that hammers, axes, and knives are also innately weapons, then I'd like to remind you that improvised weapons are a thing. Anything from glass bottles, to chairs, or even rocks could be considered weapons, as long as it's used to deal some sort of damage to someone or something. Just because it can be used as a weapon, doesn't mean it should innately be considered one on its own.

reason I was suggesting bladed object is due to the fact not every weapon has a blade, guns, clubs ect.
