Topic: Tag Alias: maned -> maned_wolf

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Aliasing maned → maned_wolf
Link to alias

Reason:

I think this is a tag born of people using a space instead of an underscore, yet it's become a species tag, somehow. It also causes said posts of maned wolves to be tagged with wolf, despite maned wolves not being true wolves.

If not the case, then alias to mane or invalid_tag instead.

EDIT: The tag alias maned -> maned_wolf (forum #272140) has been rejected by @SnowWolf.

Someone, somewhere, BEFORE THE CHANGE TO TAG TYPES, typed species:maned wolf

If people are typing maned wolf in, an alias from maned to maned_wolf will result in maned_wolf wolf being tagged.

Which is to say, still not perfect, but better anyway.

.....

actually, looking at the tags, this is... kinda funny.

There are 8 images, currently, tagged maned.

three were uploaded by "UserR" -- they tagged "maned wolf maned_wolf" on the first upload. They did the same thing on a 4th upload, but also included "fox_on_stilts" ... thanks. This suggests that it was intentional.

Then we get to UserP -- they tagged "manned wolf" on the firs upload, then realized "oops, typo" and changed manned to "maned" ... so.. maned wolf
Upload 2 and 3 feature a wolf in it, and the wolf was tagged on upload, however, they added "maned" on the second tagging pass. ...also, intentional. o.O

Then, finally, UserV who uploaded with "maned wolf" which may be the first legit typo, especially since the rest of the uploaders maned wolves are tagged correctly.

So yeah.

anyway, mane would be a poor choice -- this isn't getting tagged on lions or whatever.

Maned_wolf is probably the best choice, but it's only 3 users, sooo....

I had an inkling of a feeling that it might have been related to that, but I wasn't too sure at first.

Regardless, they're gone now. For six of the remaining posts, I changed maned to maned_wolf and removed wolf if present and the species was obvious (post #1514367 is the most obvious, since there are only two characters, and one's a sergal). For post #861756 and post #861764, I simply changed the maned tag to maned_wolf and left the wolf tag intact since I wasn't too sure if one of the characters was a wolf or if they were all maned wolves.

This is the case for 99% of mis-typed tags :) This is why we made the change so that people have to specifically go and change the tag type so that an artist named "butter" doesn't end up with a lot of random art :)

there were only about 10 with the maned tag and they were pretty split between 'mane' and 'maned wolf' so I retagged them and am mmoving on
