Aliasing skinsuit → bodysuit
Link to alias

Reason:

or the other way around, whatever.
the point is that there doesn't seem to be a difference between these two terms. they even have the same definition on e621. unless there is a definition that shows a clear difference between these two terms, one of them should be aliased to the other (which is what i suggest).

EDIT: The tag alias skinsuit -> bodysuit (forum #227469) has been rejected by @bitWolfy.

Bumping because I encountered this and just tried to make the same post. The wiki definitions are copy-paste identical.

General: skinsuit

Skin tight suit usually made from some form of rubber. In most cases the character wears it to accentuate their own curves but it can also be used for better aerodynamics in various sports. skinsuit

I couldn't create another alias request because this one exists already.

Additional aliasing skintight_suitskinsuit

Reason:

Both are the same thing.
Skinsuit is used much more and also has a wiki entry.

The first version of each wiki entry was a copy & paste by the same person, and they've barely been touched since, so it's hardly a surprise that they are still roughly the same at present.

The one-piece, generally full-body-garment is probably more accurately described as a catsuit, although the wiki entry here for catsuit is a disambiguation page.

Bodysuit in modern everyday clothing usage is a garment that covers (at a minimum) the torso and groin, sometimes arms and rarely legs, similar to a leotard. There often isn't enough detail depicted to tell clothing materials apart, so it'd be a matter of context within the image, or just combining bodysuit and leotard based on their similar amount of coverage.

My vote is to place the full-body garment under skinsuit, change the catsuit wiki to point to skinsuit, and either let bodysuit stand on its own, or imply it under leotard.

That said, the bodysuit tag as is will likely require a manual cleanup in order to create that distinction.

I'd rewrite the wikis to be different, but I'm not sure if it's all right to do that while the tagged images are still a mess.

Bumping with additional information (as this still has yet to be resolved): the primary difference between a bodysuit and a leotard is sleeves, a leotard has them and a bodysuit doesn't. previously unmentioned, a unitard has legs, with or without sleeves. that being said, the leotard tag seems to include examples both with and without sleeves, and the unitard tag is a complete mess (though with only 59 images) including examples with and without sleeves and/or legs. further the bodysuit tag currently implies the skinsuit tag, and all images with the tag contain examples of what is more correctly called a skinsuit, jumpsuit, or unitard. the current definition for skinsuit seems correct, and is the most present on this site, so let's anchor our changes around that. I've noticed in my research that unitards, leotards, and bodysuits almost always open/close at the back, whereas jumpsuits and coveralls almost always open/close in the front. skinsuit is ambiguous in this respect. Coveralls can be pretty safely set aside from this discussion, as the term refers to a looser-fitting garment, though the tag would need cleanup as it currently contains examples of skintight garments.

my proposal to minimize overlap and ambiguity:
Skinsuit "a skintight garment that covers the entire body at least to the wrists and ankles"
Bodysuit "a skintight garment that covers the torso and groin, leaving the arms and legs exposed"
Leotard "a skintight garment that covers the torso, groin, and arms, leaving the legs exposed"
Unitard "a skintight garment that covers the torso and legs, leaving the arms exposed"
Jumpsuit has a few possible options:

  • alias to Skinsuit
  • alias Coveralls to and define as "a looser-fitting garment that covers the entire body at least to the wrists and ankles
  • "a skintight garment that covers the entire body at least the the wrists and ankles and opens/closes in the front"

I would personally recommend option 2, however manual cleanup of both tags would be needed before that could be done.

Finally, my recommended procedure for accomplishing these changes:
1. Alias bodysuit to skinsuit to dump contents, then un-alias and un-imply bodysuit and skinsuit, re-define bodysuit to above definition. implicating tag glistening_bodysuit will need manual cleanup
2. re-define leotard and unitard as above
3. execute manual cleanup of leotard and unitard, moving images to bodysuit, leotard, unitard, or skinsuit appropriately. implicating tags leotard_aside, leotard_pull, monotone_leotard, and monotone_unitard will need manual cleanup
4. Execute manual cleanup of coveralls and jumpsuit, moving any images that belong in the above 4 tags into those appropriately
5. re-define jumpsuit as above and alias coveralls to it
