It was changed on August 30th of this year, by Googlipod; this user merely changed it on their own post. The unaccented e version was tagged roughly 23 times, before a user caught on to using the accented e version.

If you are using Windows you can use alt-code to access accented letters, and on Iphones most letters can be held down to access their accented forms.

Using alt code is unreliable, very few people memorize the different alt codes and some don't even know how to figure them out. Anything that requires alt code or a specialized keyboard should be avoided until an alias is passed.

I wasn't suggesting it as viable, I'm saying it exists in case people don't know. That's also why I said the iPhone held letter bit, most people I encounter don't even know that... as technology gets exponentially better, relics like alt-code outlive their usefulness.
