Topic: Tag Alias: earth_pony -> pony

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Aliasing earth_pony → pony
Link to alias

Reason:

This tag seems kind of defunct since anything MLP-based or pony-like that isn't a normal "earth" pony (unicorn, Pegasus, etc.) isn't supposed to be tagged as pony anyway (as stated on this wiki page), so this tag is redundant.

EDIT: unless those wiki pages are wrong ad we should be tagging unicorn ponies as both 'unicorn' and 'pony'.

EDIT: The tag alias earth_pony -> pony (forum #253474) has been rejected by @Millcore.

pegasus, unicorn, and alicorn, because they all imply "pony".

I'd be fine with the existence of this tag if this statement was true, but it's not; in fact it's the opposite. According to that wiki page 'unicorn' (and other mythical equines) and 'pony' are mutually exclusive tags (per character), so either this tag (earth_pony) shouldn't exist or we should be allowed to tag unicorn-pony hybrids as 'pony' and 'unicorn'

I would be fine with either of these outcomes (actually I feel the former is a bit better solution, but either one is fine), but as it stands it seems that the current tagging rules/guidelines/whatever surrounding mythical equines and the existence of the 'earth_pony' tag aren't things that make sense to co-exist.

There's no such thing as "Unicorn pony hybrids," they're unicorn ponies. 100% unicorn, but small equine therefore pony.

Frankly, the pony wiki needs to change.

Yeah, I was just trying to not say the exact same sentence a that was in the OP second time.

Aye, that too. I believe that the decision that parasprite (and probably other mods) made to have 'pony' only apply to standard horses is kind of not useful in a TWYS system 'specially when thirteen percent of the posts we have on here are mlp-based. If you're trying to look up full-sized, non-pony unicorns it's literally impossible.

I'm too sleepy to have a horse in this race yet... but..

Um.... unicorn -mlp

the first 30 (minus child-parent/spooge-no-spooge pictures) results are:

1 star vs. the forces of evil
1 pokemon
1 fakemon
1 the last unicorn
21 OC (2 of which MIGHT be MLP ocs, but are anthro)
4 Them's Fighten' Herds characters
1 monster hunter wolf kirin unicorn.. thing..

The potential pony OCS:

also I waffled over this guy, when decided the only thing that made me feel he might be a MLP oc was his colors. He's got no cutie mark and is with non-MLP species in both cases

Honestly, there's more of a problem with weird hybrids-- "it has a forehead horn, so unicorn"

Now, maybe I'm just browsing at an odd time, and there was a string of 'good' uploads just now, but even scrolling down further into history, most of these are non-MLP OCS.

And honestly... I can't see how these:

... are any less relevant to someoen wanting to see 'full sized non-pony unicorns' than these:

What about characters who are from MLP, that black and purple one isn't a pony, right, what's her name, Celesta or something; she wouldn't show up in '-MLP' searches.

Well, I'm splitting hairs a bit here, but princess_celestia_(mlp) isn't a unicorn, she's a winged_unicorn So are (to my knowledge) most of the other characters of that body shape.

For that matter, her size difference/different anatomy isn't always a guarentee--just like many mlp posts can be horse-like:

post #1413947 post #1413033 post #1413021 post #1413010 post #1412986

ultimately, it's an art style--and if your goal is to avoid "small sized pony unicorns", then you might have to throw the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak, and accept that you'll miss a few, or search characters who are likely to be appealing to you.

Because even if we did decide to start tagging art style--we're not--it's gonna be hard to avoid the 'wee ponies'

That said, I'm still not stating any opinions about if earth_pony should be aliased to Pony, if MLP unicorns should be tagged pony, etc. I don't have an opinion right now. I"m jsut replying directly to the statement that finding non-mlp unicorns is impossible
