1. If you have a problem with a mod, taking it up with them in a PM is probably your best bet.

2. This site has quality and content standards; if your content doesn't fit the minimum standards, it gets deleted. If you want to contest this deletion, see step 1 and contact the mod who deleted it.

3. Don't take deletion so personally. I can understand your frustration; we're all human, and rejection in general is naturally upsetting. So, honestly, being upset or disappointed isn't a bad reaction in itself. However, don't frame this reaction as a purposeful attack against you. You're fine in being upset or disappointed, but that (more often than not) doesn't mean the mod is deliberately targeting you

I think most people when they start making posts over at e621 usually forget to read the Upload Guidelines.

The guidelines specify that there is a Quality Standard to be met from posts.

As manually curated booru, this is part of post approval process and all everyone above janitor rank will do this.

If you want to see all posts that have been deleted for any quality reasons, see delreason:quality (~23 000 posts, starting when site was created).

What the others said is correct, we have quality standards in order to ensure our users see higher quality artwork, and don't have to sift through pages of scribbles or 4chan mspaint adventures. The downside is that sometimes art from novices and beginners won't be accepted because they aren't yet familiar with all the ins and outs of creating a 2D representation of a 3D object.

As for personal bias, I delete many images I actually quite like, either for their theme or humor, but they're still not inside of the scope of our guidelines and need to go, no matter how much I like them. On the other hand I've approved thousands of images I absolutely detest simply because they don't break any guidelines, and my personal feelings don't matter for my admin duties.

Ah yeah, it does seem that it might happen with some frequency. Perhaps to the point where it would be beneficial to try to engineer a solution to it.

Just from the top of my head, I think a good suggestion would be approaching the deletion messages like it is done with the negative scores, with the message linking directly to the section in the upload guidelines that the deleted post doesn't conform to.

Just an initial thought that could do with lots of refining, but I'm afraid that this is not really the place for such discussion hahaha

After all these years, I don't see why people still fight quality control guidelines or complain. It's somewhat the same format here as it was always. Only on some sites, members couldn't get a glimpse at pending posts and view records. You'd either have to be an admin or have moderator rights to see the inner workings. Generally if posts had any issues, they'd quarantine it for debate. Which took about a week or month(s).

I had a problem with an admin too where they gave me a flag on my account for posting an image I found from Google that I couldn't find anywhere else, so I submitted it to e621 in hopes of finding the artist and also adding the art to the site since it was never posted before.

In turn I get a flag on my account for posting an image that is DNp when how could I have known that it was DNP because I didn't know who the artist was and couldn't find it on e621 or FurAffinity.

He was really shitty like he seems to be looking at his comment history to other members and kept saying "not my problem, not my problem" and then saying I shouldn't post images here when the source is unknown...which is a nonsensical statement because every image here has an unknown source when it's first uploaded and he is saying that e621 doesn't want anyone to post images here.

I've heard from many artists on FA and Inkbunny that they hate e621 because the admins abuse their power (which is why the admin turnover rate is so high) because those admins like to ban people for stuff they disagree with just because they can, and directly antagonize people so then they can ban them for violating rules, and have even taken down art that the artist themselves submitted to the site for no reason at all.

This is nobody's fault but your own. You uploaded content without checking to see if it was something you should actually be posting, and not just one time either. The DNP list alone should make it abundantly clear that you don't do this. e621 is an archive first and foremost, not a utility for finding image sources. Try saucenao or iqdb.harry.lu.

If you've got a problem with staff, give evidence rather than hearsay. It's better for everybody involved if there's actual proof of any wrongdoing, rather than limiting it to "but my friend said..."

Well there were some issues a long time ago (Before the administration of the site changed hands) where e621 was quite different, there might've been some stigma carried over from that time. (Well I can't comment much on it given that it could've been many different reasons).

Ever since 2014 when I first joined this site, I still have yet to see people being banned because of power abuse, the interactions that i've had with the administration of the site has always been pretty cordial. (I've talked to HuskyK9, NotMeNotYou, Parasprite, Mairo, Ratte).

In any occasion e621 encourages people to post images straight from their original sources (aka artists' pages), and there are a lot of ways of finding sources if you don't know the original sources. (There are quite a few reverse search engines around AND there is a source request thread stickied on the forum so people can help you source it before you decide to post)

Really? Because I've heard the opposite. When Jasonafex and Kabier pulled all of their art from this site, they said it was because the admins wouldn't step in to punish users who left negative or overly critical comments on their work, i.e. they weren't "abusing their power" enough. Sounds like it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation for the admins.

No one's being toxic. I've had some of my uploads removed for not meeting the quality standards and you don't see me bitching about it.

You guys need to be nice. The age of an account doesn't really mean anything. Someone might make an account because they want faves or a blacklist option, and never read a single comment or forum post until one day they decide to share a picture they found or made.

Most people don't notice when art is delted. This is because when you browse the website, you are either looking at art that's already been approved, or art that's waiting to be approved. Rarely do you click on a link only for it to be deleted between the time of the thumbnail loading on the main page and when you click on it to look for it.

It's either already gone, or you already saw it. So most people don't realize that we delete around 40 pictures a day. Of course, when you realize that we get 800-1000 pictures a day... *shrugs* (I wish I could show you some of this stuff. Blurry stick figures drawn on lined paper taken with an out of focus potato? MSpaint edits of lush, detailed artwork? All this and more.)

This is because NMNY is the lead admin.

My job, as janitor, is to say "this picture was drawn by a lefthanded baboon" and delete it. When I have trouble determining something though, I use one of my lifelines and consult with other members of the staff.
NMNY's job, among many, is to provide a final word. And he typically goes ahead and clicks delete while he's doing that, rather than asking us to do it. It's... politeness on his part, y'know?

This isn't a bad idea, but it also adds time to our already heavy workload--like I said, we tend to have anywhere from 500-1000 posts per day. Each one is approved by hand.

Besides... I mean.. a single deleted image doesn't really hurt you any. And it doesn't really seem unreasonable to expect that someone should read the rules before uploading.
And if they get an image deleted, maybe they should read the rules then?

I mean, they're not exactly hidden...

but perhaps this is something we should give consideration to, thank you.

1 - Irrelevant to site (this one was posted 4 hours ago ... it was a meme. with photos of real people. With a fursuit.)
1 - Poor quality edit (4 hours ago of a picture of nick Wilde edited to be wearing Nazi uniform.)
3 - Inferior versions (1 posted 2 weeks after the superior version was posted, and 2 that have been replaced by users.)(one of these was as recently as 3 hours ago.)
8 - Artist removal requests. (in your defense, most of those were from one artist, and there were many other people who posted that artist's work too.)
3 - Artist is on the avoid posting list - Your first was 2 years ago. Your second, 11 days ago, earned you a neutral--not a negative. You haven't gotten anything for the third one, posted 3 hours ago. Yet.

This leaves you with two images. One is a picture of anthro Dylan Klebold and Anthro Eric Harris. The other image is the two of them engaging in sexual activities together. Honestly, if they were posted today, I"m not sure that I would approve them on artistic merits. But that's neither here nor there.

I mean, when I find something I want to upload, I've already got the source--the webpage I found it on. And if it's not a typical art website, I look to see if the artist has an art site I like more: then I have several sources. Then, there's the power of google image search, as posted above.

It's REALLY dang easy to find sources.

There are SOME images that don't have sources. I actually have a folder of art on my computer that I've thought about uploading, but it's going to be a lot of work. why? Because it's a folder of art I saved 15 years ago, and some of the artists have vanished, changed usernames, deleted all of their old art, etc. But I'll spend 20 minutes per picture trying to track down the source.

Why? Because that's what you DO. This is how you are a good uploader. If you don't do this, someone else has to. Or no one does and the artist just never gets any recognition for their art and gets angry if they find it here, with no credit or source links. This is how some artists end up on the DNP list by the way. Because they see us as stealing their art.

Well, my uncle works at Nintendo and HE told me that you really shouldn't listen to random people on the internet, especially people who are angry because they're very good at lying to make themselves look like they're right and everyone else is wrong.

to address things directly:

Nope, we all approve pictures we dislike, or even are nauseated by, unless they violate our content rules. Now, do we ban people for being racist, argumentative, or abusive? Yeah. do we ban people who talk about fucking their pet dog or for posting creepy comments? Sure. But in all but the most law-breaking examples, people get warnings first. Typically several of them. Which means people have to keep being breaking the rules over and over and over again before they get banned.

People are responsible for their own behavior.

Seriously, people react to records in one of three ways:

• Silence
• "Oh okay, sorry, won't happen again."
• Anger

If you react with anger.... the staff has no control over that. Seriously.

I think something like this *has* happened once or twice, but I don't know the circumstances of it.

I will say that it's dangerous to assume that just because the artist's name and the e621 account's name are the same that they're the same person. Especially if said artist is DNP.

but over all... don't listen to gossip. look at what youv'e experienced: You violated the rules repeatedly and have received 1 neutral warning. It sounds more like you're looking for a reason to get upset.

As was stated, we type it in manually each time. My webbrowser will try and suggest some helpful text sometimes, and I at least keep a notepad around with deletion reasons in it... we do try to be consistent in our "key words" (for example "inferior" and "duplicate" are almost always used in... well, the obvious types of circumstances, but some of us take "human only" while others tag something like "too human"... but "human" is the commonality.)

It's not a HUGE addition to the workload, but the bigger problem is also that the uploading guidelines only has 5 sections, which are good thins to upload, bad things to upload, quality standards, humans, and advertisements. So you wouldn't get a link precisely to paragraph 12, subsection B...

I guess over all we *could* link to the uploading rules... but at the same time, "Human only" or "Artist is DNP" is pretty straight forward, y'know?

if you had posts deleted you think shouldn't have been, see topic #23578 or DM the mod who deleted it via dmail or discord, or just ask why it was deleted on the discord and a mod will tell you
you should ask why a post was deleted instead of trying to upload it again, as knowingly reuploading previously deleted posts is a quick way to catch a record
