Topic: When to apply to tag "Oktoberfest" and "Halloween"

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Right now, the Oktoberfest wiki entry states that it is a "A popular German beer festival/fun fair that is held in Munich, Bavaria Germany." but the tag gets applied to anything that combines traditional Alp clothing and beer and thus giving off an ambience associated with that event without containing the actual description of the wiki or the definition in general.

My question would be if that falls in line with the "tag what you see policy" since there is a big stretch between showing actual festivities that seem related to the event: post #160216 and what could just be normal barmaid: post #1282748 (barmaid in a tavern for reference)

And if it is correct, should the wiki entry be changed accordingly, because how is one supposed to know this sort of stuff?

Similarly, what is the governing factor for the halloween tag? There exists a whole lot of images with witches that are tagged with it, but not every post with a witch gets the tag. Does the source have to mention Halloween or does the image have enough flair, like pumpkins and what not?

Tagged as Halloween: post #1356620 post #1358702 post #1080983
Not tagged as Halloween: post #1035041 post #199977 post #141938

This sort of stuff seems pretty poorly defined or explained.

IMO, a witch shouldn't be tagged as halloween unless it is actually related to Halloween in some way. I see nothing Halloween-specific about those first three examples. Tagging anything that could be but isn't certainly related to Halloween as halloween dilutes the tag and makes it harder to find actual Halloween stuff.

It's simple, Liederhosen, Steins and squeezeboxes vs jackolanterns.

Since TWYS is in effect, I feel the oktoberfest images fit as, with a quick glance and with what is seen in the current context, the barmaid image seems to have the oktoberfest feel, as in popular media and general public belief the holiday involves the traditional wear, beer steins, etc etc.

HOWEVER I do agree in that the first 3 witch images have absolutely nothing to do with halloween, as witches aren't inherently halloween and they need other factors and context to be considered as such (IE blatant holiday message, pumpkins, candy, costumes, etc)

Then the current wiki pages should be changed since they don't state any of that. They give no direction as to when to apply the tag, compared with a helpful entry like the one for harem.

Also, the oktoberfest isn't a holiday, it's just a folk festival were everbody wears phony clothing and it's not the only one of its kind.

Generic witches should not be tagged as Halloween, just like ghosts and animated skeletons aren't. They're common during Halloween, but hardly limited to it. Unlike Santa Claus = Christmas, etc.

The word you're looking for is "lederhosen", leather pants. Lieder = songs.

Would that make liederhosen "song pants"?
