You mean alias, yes? Cause a desert fox IS a fennec, another name for one to be specific, and not like a species of fennec.

If there were only ever two, then it's not worth it.

The desert_fox tag has been added to posts ten times

Seven of those posts ended up having their tags changed to fennec

Two ended up with simply fox

and one was changed to fennec for a while, but it was defiantly not a fox post #40554

Tehre are a great many desert-type foxes, the fennec is just the most extreme.
