Topic: Tag Alias: magician -> magic_user

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Magicians aren't inherently implied to be using fantasy magic as opposed to slight-of-hand tricks and illusions. There's also certain specific visual tropes associated specifically with magicians.

Looks like it's often used for stage magic, so -1.

-1, chances are you are mistaking a magician with a mage. Regs and Snowy has otherwise simplified my reasons why.

Stage_magic might be more useful as a tag. Since magician is currently a mix of fake and real. Plus other stuff; I already moved some posts under magician_(artist).

But then, what do we tag the attires a magician commonly wears? That is, frankly, what I want to see; acts of prestidigitation and acts of true magic can be argued semantics to an audience, so I don't want to delve into that.

How about magician_costume (or magician_uniform)? We've done the same to several other profession tags, such as aliasing maid to maid_uniform.

Well, stageplay can be referred to include wearing a costume, regardless of context, so I agree with magician_costume. It's also unisex, you don't see male magicians wearing leotards that often...

Might be a good idea to make stage_magic a tag but keep magician for the stereotypical magician outfit (like we do with witch).
